    Is amniotic fluid sticky?

    That's pretty much my question.

    Is amniotic fluid sticky?

I can't remember from last time (last time I had an obvious membrane rupture, but this was only a small gush/trickle and now absolutely nothing), and I'm trying to work out if I have ridicuously excessive vaginal discharge (that is sticky, runny, watery and clear) or if I had a tiny little bit of fluid.

It happened as I was getting out of our 4WD (actually climbing may be better way to describe it, since i am quite short and climbing out of the car is awfully awkward!). Ran down my leg (lovely). Some chaos and giggles as DP didn't want it in the car (ROFL). Nothing more though. It didn't really smell like anything.
I'm hesitant to ring the hospital until I actually need to go in birth (or if something isn't right of course). Even moreso because I am planning a VBAC and I have GD and the head Ob tried to talk me into a S&S yesterday at my appointment, I know once I go in then that's pretty much it, I need thinigs to happen quickly in there and I know the opposite will happen!

I went for a short walk, and had a rest, and haven't had any more discharge/fluid since so I have no idea what it was. Was hoping to maybe have some sexy times tonight to help things on it's way (lol) but not sure about if that's ok if it was fluid?

    Re: Is amniotic fluid sticky?

I think with ds my clear, gushing amniotic fluid was not sticky. But with dd, my thick, green meconium-filled fluid was not exactly sticky but very disgusting and messy.

Not sure on the stickyness of amniotic fluid. Have you tried laying down for half an hour, then stand to see if more fluid comes out? Because the lying down will help it pool, then standing up may cause it to gush out.

Mine wasn't sticky either. It was more like a thicker feeling water. A little bit slimy.

Might have been a tiny leak, or maybe just some plug with vaginal discharge as I just had some of the gross phlegm-y looking mucous. No fluid though. Isn't pregnancy just so glamorous...

the gross phlegmy looking mucous sounds like part of your plug though and it's normal for that to start coming away by now. If you do decide to help things along, just don't insert anything because if it is a small hindwater leak, the last thing you want to do it go putting things up there and possibly giving yourself an infection.

Yeah, it's been coming away for about two weeks! I'm pretty sure I have an infinite supply of it tucked away up there. Come on baby!

I don't think mine was sticky. But I suppose everyone's is different. Your plug regenerates. It sounds like it might have been a small leak. When I had DD, I had spontaneous small gushes of fluid. Baby's head can be plugging it all from coming out, or I think it is possible for it to repair if its a small leak...(I think the mid wife told me that, lol it was 6 years ago now...)
I agree that unless you feel that there is something wrong, or that it's 'time' for bub to come, don't go to hospital. But maybe you could ring the mid wives. They can give advice to you from afar. You don't have to go to hospital unless you need to.

Hmm... I'd wait & see if there's more. I've had watery discharge that wasn't fluid. Kinda similar. The discharge towards the end of all my pregnancies was different. Not one was the same!

My waters with DD1 was a slight leak every 20 - 30 minutes. Enough to leave a patch on the bed the first time, but not enough to fill a pad more than every couple hours after that.

DS's was different, but still only a leak. Just way more each time

Maybe do something to help bring it on, like a DTD or a walk, then have a sleep & see what happens. Only one of my labours started when I was awake.

(Little bit excited to see you're that close!!)

LOL had to laugh when you said you were getting out of the 4WD!!!! DP needs to get you that plastic seat cover

I wouldn't say amniotic fluid is sticky, it does however ever have a very distinct smell kinda like "sex" like Dansta said.
Maybe it is just excess discharge.

Fingers are crossed for a public ROM
