Yep.
With my first, I went into labour on the due day, went to hossy.. then they all died down... not knowing any better I let them use the drip to move things along...
It was only on low, labour progressed normally.. 8 hours later, no drugs, and a normal vaginal birth.
Remember unless they are worried about infections, you can go 24hrs with leaking waters before getting too concerned... and you are likely to go into labour before then!!
I had my waters broken first, then started on the synto a few hours later. Was on the synto only 5.5 hours or so and managed without drugs. I did use some gas at the end, but it was just because I was so distressed and losing it and it (sort of) helped me to focus on something.
I think maybe 80% of women induced with synto end up with an epidural - can totally understand why.
DD2 i needed togo on the synto because my labour stalled, didnt even use the gas, was hard work but an hour and a half after starting the synto i was pushing so was over relatively quickly.
Good luck, look forward to reading ur BA
I was induced with synto 3 times. 1st time I had a shot of pethadine. 2nd time I only used gas towards the end and 3rd time I didn't have any pain relief at all, not even gas.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I'll def ask for as much flexibility as possible - so I can shower etc. And I'll ask if it can be started at a low dose.
Last time this happened I was put on synto after 17hrs of natural labor so was already exhausted!
But thus time I'm feeling well rested so hopefully can manage better
Hope you have a great labour! I had synto & didn't feel need for any pain relief. My mw started on low dose & took the dosage up slowly & I think that helped. I had gel the day before & by synto time bub was fully engaged & I'd started to dilate.
Yes! With my first child, I had PROM at 36.4 weeks. I failed to go in to labour and after 72 hours (I was at home, taking antib and monitored by my independent midwife) I went to hosp and was put on synto drip. I was determined not to have an epi. And I didn't. It was intense but I got through it without any drugs.
It was a very empowering experience for me. I went on to have 2 homebirths after it. I knew that I could birth at home drug-free as I had survived the synto!
I wish you all the best for your labour and birth.
Best of luck to you, gorgeous!! So close now I had synto with DD1 and used gas, had a shot of peth but it seriously didn't help at all, DD2 was spontaneous labour but had AROM to get things moving and only a couple of puffs of gas to get me through a posterior labour It hurt, sure, but it can definitely be done! Hope it all goes well for you hun and you have a wonderful birth Can't wait for the BA! xx
I started synt at 0700 and laboured till 1530 with no drugs, I then ended up with an epidural due to being slow to dilate and emerg cs at 2130. So yes I went a long time on synt no drugs.
I had my waters broken and synto started straight away as I had to be induced due to PE and HELLP. I did not use any drug pain relief - just massage from DP for back pain.
I was induced because i had merconium in my waters. I was having some of my own contractions in the beginning and the drip was put in about 12pm and my gosh could i feel the different between mine and the synto ones but i never felt the need for anything more than gas.
