There is a member on here, River, who had a retained placenta with her first three births, but not with her 4th. I would think that with such a large gap between babies 2 and 3, that the previous one shouldn't come into it at all?
Just curious to see if anyone has had repeated retained placentas with consecutive births?
I have 2 children the first placenta was delivered fine not long after bub, however the second was retained and I had to have a manual removal...although being 15 years ago I can't actually remember how long they waited before going in and removing it.
At my last check with the M/W she said my next visit will be with the OB to asses the risk of it happening again and having a canular ready for syntocin straight after bub is born.
I'm not keen on this, I'd rather wait and see what happens before going the drugs, just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this?

I had a retained placenta with my first but with my second daughter I had the canualar ready but I managed to deliver the placenta fairly quickly after her birth.
From what i was told, just coz you had one, doesnt necesarily mean you will have another....its just chance you may. I had RP with DD#1 (awful, terrible experience....but anyway). PUt me off having children, until that natural urge came along. When pg with DD#2 i researched RP and made sure medical staff knew my history....but no problems here. Infact it was my easiest labour (#2) ....she just popped out.
GL....
Thanks mbear..I know all about the awful terrible experience! I'm thinking that wanting me to have the drip ready to go is probably a case of convenience for the staff.
If there has to be intervention to help it along there has to be but I'd much rather wait and see how it goes instead of just assuming and pumping the drugs in anyway.
