The problem is they also have the very powerful AMA on their side too, who are keen to keep the ownership of birth in the hands of doctors and obstetricians. It's like they want to completely wipe midwives out of the picture and would prefer to have them as 'obstetric nurses' to do as the doctor says and monitor machines. GRRRR makes me SO mad.
