my best advice if this happens again is take a couple of paracetamol (they really can work wonders for easing the pain) and try to rest and ignore the contractions. Keep eating and drinking as you may need your strength soon. My preferred position for a back labour was kneeling on the couch with my arms on the arm rest and watching TV or reading a book that way. If bub is posterior this will help. Try not to time the contractions (I know it is tempting) because if you are able to do this they are probably not yet the real thing.
