Hi Lanaktb
What you are going to have is a balloon induction. They would not noemally drain your amniotic fluid however it is not unusual for then to add some saline solution if your fluid level is low.
Do you know what your amniotic fluid level is? Normal is between 5 – 25.
Your low level could have been caused by a leak. These leaks often reseal themselves and then your body and your baby will replace your amniotic fluid.
Mine was a little different as my membranes ruptured and no contractions started. I also tested positive for GDS (strep b) so they didn't want to expose bubs to any bacteria. So they induced me. I was not overly thrilled in being induced, but I was also a week late, and wanted an end in sight.
The good thing was, that even though they wanted me induced I also was able to have a pretty active labor. I even had a student holding the monitors on me (the telemetry ones wern't working well) But they seriously bent over backwards to help me. I managed to do it all with a little gas in 4.10 hours.
So I'm positive that you will also have a good experience even from being induced.
My 2 cents stay on your knees as long as you can to increase the success of the VB.
I'm an hour away from leaving home, my emotions have been all over the place today. Happy, scared, excited, nervous and i feel a bit sick...lol
Not sure what my levels were Alan i didn't ask at the time. I think hubby and i just misheard the info on the catheter - we were buzzing about the news of induction i think. The only reason i can think he is using this method is because i have had surgery a few years ago for cervical cancer - having the entrance of my cervix removed at the time. I'm really happy with his decisions and feel really safe in his care. I was a bit nervous about bubs being ok but he has said she is in good health.
Ok i best be off to have a shower, finish that last bit of bag packing. Gosh its all going to happen tonight or tomorrow..lol
Thank you everyone for the great advice and support
I was just saying to hubby well i can now answer my own question.
For me it has been so far...painful, frustrating, and emotional rollercoaster.
Last night we went in and had the tape placed and was going to have a ballon cathedar but had some trouble placing that one so it was left out. After a night of cramping but no contractions and apart from being extremely sore down there from all the poking and proding we have been sent home for the day and will be going back in tonight for round 2. Hopefully the cath will be placed in and something progresses from there - my cervix is being very unfavorable.
I think if nothing happens after tonights go, we may be in for a c-section...not quite sure what i should be thinking or feeling right now. Have had a good cry and have pulled my socks up ready for tonight.
Take care, hopefully my next post will be of some good news!
