Big Age Gap 4+ years between children ... ??

There are a few threads similar going but I dont want to hijack anyones thread so Im curious (A few ppl have mentioned it to me) That if you have an age gap of 4+years between children your birth/labour will be like the first time.

Is this true? Are there any articles to suggest otherwise?

I am starting to doubt what has been said as my body clearly remembers as I've been preparing since 6weeks (everything loosening up) and have the braxton hicks this time (Didnt with DD1)

    TIA

Wow I hadn't even thought of this! I hope it's not true as DS will be 4.5 when bubba arrives.

There's 5 years between my two. I don't know about the actual labour as I was a VBAC, but as for carrying and breastfeeding/recovery afterwards my body certainly remembered. I was showing at 8 weeks. Even when people have babies close together each labour is different, I'm wondering how someone would know that it was like a first birth just because there was a larger age gap - what are they comparing that with? It could just be how that person gives birth

    Im with you Yeddi.

I've just heard a few things from a few older ladies - whether or not its an old belief I am not sure. I cant see how your body would forget. This is what a womans body is designed to do!

I have a ten year age gap between my two. With #2 I was pushing for 50 mins which is more like a first labour (so my midwife said) as second and subsequent labours *usually* have a shorter pushing stage. My midwife said that this was probably because of the large age gap. I'm due to have #3 in 10 weeks so I guess I'll find out then!

There's hope yet ladies cos this didn't apply to me

DS1 was 8.5 hr labour with 2 hours of pushing.
DS2 was 3.5 hr labour with ummm under 5 minutes of pushing.

With both of mine i seem to get pre-labour for hrs prior but soon as i get to 3cm it goes pretty quick then and both my first two were 6 yrs apart.

Phew! LOL Of course everyone is different, but Im so glad I asked!

I can rest assured I probably will have a similar labour like I did with DD1

    Hey MissM,

there are 4yrs and a bit between my first 2 girls and the second was even more easy than the first. 40mins pushing for the first and 20mins for the 2nd. My body definitely didn't forget. Both girls were head down by 32 weeks and this time around bubs engaged at 27wks! there will be just over 3yrs between this baby and my dd2. Although you never know what to expect with labour and birth definitely look on the bright side, positive thoughts can only help! All the best

Well, Liebs is over 4 and I am not even pregnant with #2, but my belly certainly remembers pregnancy still! (Maybe I should "remember" how to do situps instead of how to hide the tum.) And even though he stopped BFing at 16m, I have started lactating again these last 6m.

I don't think this body is going to forget.

DD1 is 8 - 5 hours labour, an hour pushing followed by failed ventouse then forceps.
    DS is 5 (almost 6) - 4 hours labour, 20 minutes pushing.
    DD2 is 7 months - 3 hour labour, 10 minutes pushing.

The next one might fall out!!

I had a thread on the same thing a couple of years ago.. I doubt that it's still around but I'll have a look. I think the general consensus was nope - once you've given birth, your body knows.
I had a 4.5 year gap between my second & third (which ended in CS but that was unrelated to the age gap ) and then a VBAC 7 years later. All my births were totally different though.
ETA - Whaddya know, I found it Labour after a big age gap?

Thanks Fleur! That helped alot! I figured the body must remember something. The body is an intelligent piece of work!

Yup it's pretty clever huh! I guess it's like riding a bike
Braxton Hicks are a great sign too, I didn't have them with my first but I did with my subsequent pregnancies. Not too long to go! Good luck, let us know how it goes for you
