Touche! I think discussing birth as an analogy might people help to understand better that it IS a natural process. Reading that article really makes the whole medical intervention phenomonen seem quite ridiculous. Which I know now it is. But it's not so easy for people to just "let go" of the "truth" that they have "known" for their whole lives. It takes time to show people that their long held beliefs might be misconceptions. I think the use of analogies is very useful in this case. Anyway, I really enjoyed reading it, I wish I had done so before having babies LOL!

I love it !!! That was fantastic. Sadly enough for me though, the whole poo analagy was pretty right for my last birth. LOL.

Its too true that something that is so natural is viewed as something that always needs medical management and intervention to progress properly. All too often I am scoffed for wanting a home birth (oh, no, too dangerous, and no pain relief), and a waterbirth (ewww, messy, do you really want to be sitting in all that? And what? No pain relief?), and a natural birth with no medication (pfffft, you're fooling yourself, you're naive, i give you an hour, and you'll be begging for it...).

I just answer... "I have faith in the power of my body, this is what I'm designed to do".

And just ignore the "ewww" comment to the waterbirth thing too.

Leasha, for what it's worth hun, my waterbirth wasn't messy at all, actually my water was pretty clean, either that or I just did not see it. But in the video and pictures it sure didn't look like a blood bath. And the best part, you can just drain it out onto the lawn. No mess at all !!

And yes I get all of those comments too. Both with my last baby and this one.
