    Congenital Hip Dislocation

    Heya Every one,
I was born with congenital hip dislocation and i was just thinking if it might cause difficuilties when i give birth. Ive read that some C sections are performed because the womens pelvic bone (i think thats the one) doesnt loosen up enough for the baby to be safely pushed through it, and my mum said i might have to have a c section because of the hip op i had to correct my congenital hip dislocation might prevent my pelvic bone to accomodate natural birth.
Yes i know i should see my doctor about it and stuff, and i will when it comes to that time, but im just wanting to hear from other woman with this sort of experience, weather they have been through it, or a member of the family.
    Thanks every one =)
And i really hope i have posted in the right board, theres so many to choose from!

    hello and welcome to BB!

I had something going on with my hip when I was born but I think it was what they refer to as a 'clicky' hip which is something different to CHD as I did not need surgery. So I'm not much help really but I would think that there would have to be major changes in your pelvis to necessitate you needing a C-S. Try posting in medical conditions during pregnancy or in children's medical conditions as I think the mums who have bubs with CHD have a discussion there and they may be able to help.

Oh and good luck for a this month!

I am so new here that this is my first post. I was looking through the posts, and this one leapt out at me.

"Clicky Hip" is a layman's term for CHD. It runs in my famiy, and although I didn't have it, my cousin was in a brace for the first 9 months or so of her life. My understanding is that you only need surgery if it has been left too long for a brace to help (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

Anyhow, the crux of it is that about 3 years ago my cousin gave birth natually to a beautiful baby girl, and has had no problems.

But you're right, talk to your doctor about it, as I'm not sure if the surgery would make things any different.

    Good luck though!

hehe yeah i was born with it, and i wasnt diagnosed till 18 months when my parents noticed me walking with a limp..
Also, i was born in South Africa, so the technology wasnt as advanced either, especially back then. I had to have a plate and screw put in to make my hip right again...
    Thanks every one

I must have done alright then. Mine was picked up straight away as my right leg just fell away to the side. My mum said I had to wear double nappies for a few months and that I didnt like being held.

After this time though when it was better, I got the nickname Monkey as my parents could just walk around without holding onto me and I would just hang off them!
