    Question Contraception?

Not sure if this is the right place so it can be moved if you like!

I was just wondering what contraception people used after giving birth? With DD we tried the mini pill but I was hopeless at remembering to take it at same time every day so we resorted to condoms.

This time we don't plan on having another kid - well def not for a couple of years so want something more permanent. Has anyone had an IUD? Or what other options do I have?

I like the pill because it usually make my periods much lighter and less cramps but not sure if I can take it everyday at same time. Any suggestions of other options would be great - along with info - how they work, how you get it, how much the cost etc.

My GP recommended me an implanon implant (which I didn't want yet)- they stick it in your arm - think she said it lasts 5 years - you can have it taken out if you want to TTC before that.

I looked into implanon before giving birth but decided against it as I knew I'd be breastfeeding. I also took the mini pill after my first bub, was terrible at taking it and thought we'd chance it after about 4 months!

We are using the good old condom. Dont go through too many though so fairly cost effective

nellnell - I thought implanon was progestogen based so you could take it when Bfeeding?? I only ask because I was BFeeding when Doc offered it, maybe she was having an off day.

Implanon is progesterone based and is fine while BFing.

Id suggest either the Implanon or the Depo Injection. Both are progesterone based and fine during BFing.

I had a Mirena insterted. This is a Progesterone IUD and lasts 5 years. I've had some spotting with it, but it generally makes it so your periods are negligible. Even lighter than what they were when I was on the pill.

If, at any time, you decide to have another baby you just have it taken out. Pretty good really. I haven't had any pain or anything, but it's probably one of those things you'd want to research before having it.

Mine was inserted at my six week check up with bubs about a month ago.
