Do you think there is a link or its just DNA?

Evan has Anxiety problems which we are just starting to see them in different ways. Have always thought he had some level but its showing its self more so lately.

I was thinking, DH has an anxiety disorder also.
So is Evan just "like his dad" ? OR is it possible his labour/birth had something to do with it?
Reason I ask is Glenn & Isla (from what I can tell) are A ok. No real out of the ordinary issues there. Both had more relaxed, calm births. Isla more so but still.

Evan on the other hand while not what most would class as a traumatic birth, I did go in to it with nothing but fear on my side. Out of all my birth his was the worst in that way.
From start to finish I was terrified.

So do you think its possible that it has something to do with it? Or its simply lucky of the draw for DNA & he is just like his dad?

Oh FJ - hugs to you

I have been reading a book recently regarding criminal behavior (not suggesting Evan has this!) and it sighted some studies that showed a link between severely traumatic births and a slight increase in hyperactivity disorders. But from the sound of it his birth wasn't THAT traumatic physically.

There have been studies that have shown that if the mother had an extremely stressful pregnancy then this can have an effect on the stress hormones that the child is exposed to.

It is possible that Evan has some sort of predisposition to anxiety (many predispositions to certain mental disorders are inherited - doesn't mean that you will necessarily develop it but can have a predisposition) I think that it is possible that his male role model deals with things in a particular way and so that is the way that he has learned to as well. I won't get into the whole nature/nurture debate.

There is also a number of studies that show that the first born of a family tends to be more anxious than subsequent children because they naturally feel certain pressures to perform.

Well my DD has a lot of anxiety and she had a traumatic birth. But DS is so very laid back and his birth was calm. But then i have severe anxiety aswell, so i'm not sure.

very interesting i do some research in to this theory it kind of makes sense doesn't it that traumatic births / stressful pregnancies etc would have an effect

Well I didn't have a stressful pregnancy as such. Maybe a few stresses but not out of the normal range of stress.
But it was more his labour was scary for me, I had nothing but fear going in so I was tense & very anxious for that. In all honesty, while his birth wasn't physically traumatic, emotionally it was for me.

He would have a predisposition to an anxiety disorder as DH has anxiety issues as well, so does FIL & apparently alot of the males on DH's side.

But I just wondered if my mental state during his labour played a part in bring it out in Evan. Surly both Isla & Glenn would have a predisposition as well, but both had more calm labours/births.

Glenn is now at the age we started seeing it in Evan. But is overall a happy kid.

I saw the school counsellor today about Evan. It just got me thinking.

My dad has anxiety disorder, his mother did, I do severly, my brother and sister do, and I've seen it coming up in my DD's (we are seeing specialists and going to STOP THE CYCLE)!!!! So from our standpoint, it's genetic. Actually I wouldn't even say genetic, but it's learned. Not saying that's the case with anyone else, but definitely is with us.

Yep, we will be going along to a thing called Small Steps & then Evan will also be a part of a programme called Mr Scary & Mr Worry (something like that)
DH & I will be filling in the assessment questionnaire tonight. But the School counsellor ahas no doubt just on what I have told her alone that this is Evans problem.
