Does anything...and I mean anything at all hurt more than child birth?

That question makes me uncomfortable actually, as I think that focussing on the pain causes a lot of fear in pg women and this usually translates into a bad birthing experience. Personally my second birth was more painful due to not having an epidural as I did the first time. Yet it was a far more satisfying experience and I enjoyed it far more. I think, due to the context, the pain in childbirth is different to anything else you will experience. And it certainly is something which is manageable and well worth it.

try crashing your bike 8 weeks after bub was born at 180km at teh race track ( used to race and was practising)breaking yoru collar bone into 3 pieces, needing plates and screw, damaging all the ligaments in your neck and bruising both knees and having gall stones at teh same time
yep id say that was worse than child birth.. id happily have a baby than do that again.

Also gall attack is definelty worse, i think child birth is a positive pain if there is such a thing, its almost all forgotten about the moment its over.

YES! Giving birth was the most amazing pain i ever felt it gave me such a rush and amens (sp?) joy how ever you give birth to take in that all that pain was for something so incredibly special!!!

The worst pain i have ever felt, would have to be post-gallbladder-removal surgery followed very closely by gallstone attacks!!!

Kellz- that bike accident sounds horrific.

I am not afraid of child birth as I know it is pain with a purpose but it is in a way reassuring that there are worse pains you can go through.

Lulu- I do agree that a broken heart is painful and I do find emotional pain more difficult to deal with than physical pain.

I have had a ruptured appendix and also a blocked bowel and I remember those were quite painful so I will be interested to see how it compares with child birth for me.

My DP had a petruding disc in his spine which he had to put up with for about 7months before having surgery which he said is the most excrutiating pain ever. In a way I think to myself, that I think he is right.

Like many people have said, the thing about the pain of child birth is that it does go away and has a big reward at the end and each bit of pain that you experience is a step closer to meeting your little baby so it does make it worth it.

lol ali the accident wasnt that bad sounds worse than it was. the bike was still rideable, lucky i was at teh track and not on the road..

child birth for me was a good pain. i enjoyed it as i knew once she was out id forget about it. and it was sooooo worth it im going back for a 2nd go lol

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents too

As the other girls have said, the pain of labour and birth is completley indescribable and so different to anything else. And yeah it hurts quite a lot, but your body is designed for this- this is our ultimate purpose. Also, it it bearable because it comes in waves- just when you think it can't get any worse- you're right, and it eases off again for a little bit.

Personally I'd say getting my wisdom teeth removed was a far worse experience, pain wise. Give me five hours of intense but wholly satisfying pain that comes, goes and crescendos, rather than four weeks of a terrible dull ache anyway. The pain that comes with labour is quite invogorating and fills you with such a sense of purpose when it's done- knowing I dealt with that pain is really a source of pride for me (in a 'I'm am woman, hear me roar' kinda way )

It wasn't the birth that I remember being painful, 2nd stage was a breeze, I found transition really hard to deal with, the contractions came hard and fast, I felt like it would never end, I kept getting panicky because I was not in control but then would remember my breathing exercises from my hypnotherapy cd and I would calm down again. The pushing stage was much easier, I was in control and was able to get a good rest between contractions which helped.

I don't think I have ever experienced pain like it in my life but I can't wait to do it again so it can't be too bad.

try pilionidal sinus.. its a growth of hairs between your lower back ( ok, the top of your bottom cleft) it requires surgery and the wound is left open, to be dressed daily .. ouchy..i had a nurse come and dress it for me, salt baths and DH ( only boyfriend at the time was shown how to do it also) would dress it aswell twice a day.
My surgeon didnt think i should have had it as i am of anglo saxon background and blonde.. it normally affects darker european people.. i could not sit and the dressing was so very painful.

I personaly think, for me that child birth must MUCH easier and less pain..

FYI - i had a gas labour with DD, no tears and with DS i also had Gas with 2nd tears ( his head was 38cm! yikes)

In all honesty I have to say kicking my toe hurt more.. silly as it sounds.. But labour is a gradual pain and yeh it hurt but it built up slowly.. Kicking your toe is sudden and unexpected and gauranteed to get a swear word out of me everytime

What about when you hook your little tiny toe (smallest one lol) at the foot of your bed OMG that hurts sooooo bad..... if that hurts more than labour then i'm gonna do great hehehe

My gall stone attack was far worse than labour!!! So was the pain after my ERCP - I thought I was going to die after that one (seriously! It hsouldn't have hurt that much!)

For me, the pain was pretty much identical to my period pain (well, apart from pushing out the head!)

The best thing about labour pain? The hormones that make you forget! You dont get those with any other type of pain.

And really, if it was that bad, would women not only do it once, but go back for more?!

I was scared like you too honey, but remember and trust that your body knows what to do and it knows how to handle whats happening every step of the way. And just when you think it cant get any worse, it will ease off.

ok, my turn.

i have heard that passing a kidney stone is the worst thing any man or woman can endure. but i have never done this.

i have however had gall stones, attacks, gall bladder surgery, reflux, ruptured eosophagus, burst stomach ulcer, spinal fracture, horrific wisdom teeth removal leading to broken jaw.hyper-extended knee, and 2 vaginal births.

but none of this was worse than .... recovering from an episiotomy.

sorry ladies, not trying to freak anyone out. but my point is that pain is all relative, things hurt differently for differnt people.

I would say that gallstones/gallbladder attacks were much, much worse than giving birth.
I actually enjoy giving birth. It makes me feel so womanly and the reward in the end is worth every ounce of pain.

Mum told me her kidney stones were worse and more painful than all 3 of her labours/births put together!!!!

Ren that so made me smile- I remember being at that point in pregnancy where you know it's goin to happen so soon and youa re just thinking "Yep! I'm ready! I'm tough! Bring it ooonnn!"

And that's when you know you're body is really starting to kick into gear.
