It does sound very odd. There have been a lot of recent calls to stop scheduling caesareans for non emergency situations before 39 weeks, due to the extra trouble babies have breathing for lack of those few extra days in the womb. It may be that your friend's doctor has weighed up the pros and cons of waiting a few days, and decided that the extra risk of her giving birth now (to her child) is not worth it considering the baby is currently coping well.

However if she is concerned about the bleeding then she needs to ask for a 2nd opinion. She can ask for one from within the hospital, wait until another doctor comes on shift for example. I like Mrs Bexie's idea of keeping the pads (although not shoving it in their faces because ewwww) but this will demonstrate exactly what her loss is and they can discuss with her what levels they are happy with before they would consider it to be a bleed and not a show.
