    Talking Doula help?

    Hi everyone.

So I've decided that I want a doula at my homebirth (that I'm having with the Community Midwives Program) but my partner doesn't think it's necessary as I'm having a homebirth with a midwife anyway.

My logic is this; the midwife is only going to be there for the end of labour whereas I can call my doula whenever I feel I need the support. As much as I have complete confidence in the CMP, my middy's job is to deliver the baby and she won't be able to offer the same intense support a doula can. I also think DP is going to be pretty crap at supporting me, he was last time. He tried, certainly, but he slept through a lot of it and I often felt very alone. Having a doula would give him a chance to relax. I'm hoping she'll also be able to hold the camera during the big moment.

So my question is; is it worthwhile having a doula at a homebirth with a midwife?

I've been thinking about this too and I think yes, for the exact reason you have said, including the photos too.
