Did you use energy drinks for labour??What's best?? Gatorade, Vitamin water, Hydralyte?? Any ideas. Are some not ok?? I read on the side of one of those vitamin water drinks that it wasn't reccommended for pregnant women.

I had gatorade but drinking anything made me sick.
Te hossy also had some kind of sweet energy drink they were giving me to sip as well.
They did a study and found that women who alternated lucozade with water were less likely to have ketones in their urine. Although who knows if this is a significant thing or a normal physiological thing for a labouring woman... but still, there you go!

Forever grateful to my incredible Mod Team
I drank 2 apple juices and lots of water. From transition until birth I had a sip after every contraction, it was hard work I tell you
Funny you mention the shakes Toomanytoomany, I couldn't stop shaking for about an hour after the birth and they even put the heat lamp over top of me. Hmmmmmm now to google away!!!
When I say shakes, I mean a hypoglycaemic attack - I start shaking, sweating, feeling nauseated and panicky. This happens whenever I let my blood sugar drop too low - whether I'm in labour or pregnant or just being a normal human being LOL.
I remember that horrible shakey feeling you're describing after my dd3 was delivered, though - I think it was shock because she was delivered really fast and I lost a lot of blood.
I am going to take with me soem of my favourite fruit cup cordial made up as i know that it sits well with me.
Can you imagine being on a few red bulls when you are giving birth!!!Sorry that probably isnt funny but I just saw a funny commercial for that run through my head!
I felt too sick to drink anything but water, although the energy drinks (not the caffenated ones, the gatorade-type ones) would probably be good if you're not eating anything.
Personally, I had to be NAGGED to drink and suck a lolly pop. Make sure your support person knows to remind you to eat (or suck a lolly) and drink cause you may not think of it while in labour.
I had no idea! I had one the other dayI read on the side of one of those vitamin water drinks that it wasn't reccommended for pregnant women.
Might be a good question for your MW? Or maybe Alan will drop in![]()
Chocolate milk for me. I found in that was all I wanted.
With both my DS's I wasn't up for drinking anything until after the birth!
I had everything packed snacks and all and they got sent home!
BG, you might find you are happy to eat during your labour, in which case water would be just fineIt's only if you can't eat that you need to think about your sugars, which I'm sure you know.
Like Janie said, you can keep lollies handy or jelly (though I found I didnt' even want jelly) but a lollypop that you can intermittently suck on is good. Or peppermint lollies which can really help ease nausea.
I dont know what to drink I wasn't allowed toI got a jug of water whilst my mother and dp drank nice cups of coffee and ate toast right next to me

I had Powerade.... DH stopped and bought some on the way for us (I was induced) and I found I didn't want all the much of it (had better things to concentrate on
). I mainly ate and sucked on ice chips and the MW's got me to drink some water every now and then.
