I have had a back ache all night since my stretch class finished- made for a great nights sleep! It varies from pain like a dull period ache, to a muscular ache like I've overdone my stretches. It is very low down in my back and if I stand and tense my butt muscles it feels good because it relieves it for a bit!
I still have at least 2 weeks to go so I am not getting my hopes up at all but because I had absolutely no pre-labour signs with Izzy am just curious.
This could last a few weeks can't it!??
What can I do to ease it? I can't imagine feeling like this for 2 weeks and being sane enough to labour at the end of it?
Are there are any other signs I should look for?
TIA
It could possibly be pre-labour. I hope you don't have 2+ weeks of it. I had it for 4 weeks, and it was so tiring. When I eventually went into labour, I didn't believe it was for real, I just thought it was another false alarm!
I only got prelabour from 6.30am til 9pm on the day I went into labour. I was 1 week & 4days before my due date. You never know you could get lucky. I did however have a show that started at 6.30 am along with the AF type pain.
Grab a hot water bottle. It was my best friend while I was in prelabour.
it sounds like pre-labour to me. things are moving and shaking so to speak. i had similar kind of aches in the 2 weeks leading up to DDs birth (and dont worry about having 2 weeks to go...she came at 38 weeks! ). the period like pain is definately a great sign!
What i did for relief was buy a good heat pack and have DH compress it against my back. i also did some of the movements that we were taught in ante-natal class (ie the hip rocking). you may find that this really helps as these dull back aches are like a 'baby' version of the real deal so the movements recommended are also good for this (hope that makes sense! LOL!).
warm showers directed onto the area also help...or going on all fours can help relieve the pressure.
Thanks ladies! Pain has eased a tad after a glorious back rub that DH gave me, thank god he is home is all I can say. It's still niggling a bit but not as bad as before - makes me wonder if I just over did the stretching at my class last night! If it is pre-labour there might still be a few weeks yet so Im trying not to panic yet!
You could try panadol.
But I think if you are wanting to avoid it that a bath, shower or hot water bottle would be best.
Maybe you could try gentle walking if you want to try & start labour.
Shower helped with DD2. She was sideways, so I had alot of back pain & I had the shower on my back between contractions. It was so good.
If it gets real bad try going on your hands & knees over a bean bag or something to take the pressure off your back.
I had the same problem with DS & labour was too quick for a shower, so I used a beanbag. It helped.
Hope it doesn't last too long!
