I had an epidural with DS, i couldnt feel anything when it came time to push so was relying on the midwifes to tell me when. I ended up with a vaccum delivery as his heart rate was dropping. I also had an episiotamy with him.

DD, no epi (although during transition i was begging for one lol) and no intervention. 1st degree tear. I actually enjoyed the feeling of wanting to push, it felt so good - kinda like when you need to do a big poo and it feels good to get it out

Personally i do believe for me that having the epi with ds did inhibit my ability to push - keep in mind that this was my first labour and although i was mentaly prepaired nothing can really prepare you for how its going to feel physically and how you will cope. Also in saying that, having the epi was the right descision for me and i have no regrets about and tbh even after having DD naturally i'd still prefer not to feel all that pain again.
