I was the exact same. We are only letting ppl visit while I am in hospital and on Sundays that is it. Last time SIL just invited herself to come stay with us from melbourne for 10 days so we had no time to ourselves as a new family.

All you have to remember is that babies cry. It's their only way of communicating to us. You will probably feel very anxious at first, but it will pass. Don't let visitors stress you out. Go into another room if you feel uncomfy settling bubs in front of them, it will probably make it easier on bubs to settle as well. But just remember babies do cry, it's what they do. Knowing this really helped me get through all those long, sleepness nights! It's normal! Good luck, you'll be fine and you'll be a great mum! xox

..... and I know well meaning family will guilt you into it - but if bubs is sleeping, no picking them up from wherever they are, and minimal arm passing around like pass-the-parcel when they are new - they too are trying to adjust to their new surroundings and family

I was very wary of visitors in hospital. Some of my family and friends can be quite overbearing and not take a hint to leave!

I ended up speaking to one of the midwives who gave me a sign to put on the door advising people that visits were to be kept to a minimum under dr's orders!

Kind of cheeky, but it gave me peace of mind, time to get used to being a mum and time on our own as a new family without people hanging round for hours at a time.

We told the IL's that we were having no visitors (including them) on the first day. Visiting hours were in the arvo so that meant i didnt have to see them until around 3pm on the second day.. this gave them the hint to leave us alone for a few days when we got home with DS as well.

or, if you know when you are having visitors (or even when they arrive) you could all go and sit in the visitors area, and if bub becomes grumbly, you could excuse yourself and bub back to the privacy of your room
