i went home on the morning of day 3, my choice, they said at the hospital that i went to that 72 hours was the max stay for a c section stay anyway. i had midwife visits for 2 weeks and she took my big dressing off for me, i had no stitches.

I had mine on Tuesday just after 5pm and was home just after lunch on the Friday, so thats about 2.5 days. TBH I just relieved to be going home, felt really sore but so ready to just get into my own surroundings. They did ask if I felt ready, I'm sure they would have kept me in if I'd said I wasn't ready. I had the midwives visit at home daily for the first few days, and I was given advice on what to do, how to check the dressing, and to come back in or call at any time if I had questions or felt concerned.

I went home 36hrs after my C/S because I wanted to. The hospital wasn't too worried and they gave me a bunch of things to look out for (like clots etc). They also sent a mw out to me for 3 days after I got home.

If your friend was feeling up to it, its probably better to be at home in your own bed with as much or as little family around as you like!
