How, when and where were you born?

I'm interested in how our own mumma's did it!

I am the third of three children. I was born in Canberra, in 1977.

My brother was an unassisted vaginal birth. No pain relief.

    14 months later...
My sister was an emergency CS (undiagnosed placenta previa, my mum had a huge bleed at term and was told the baby had not survived as they couldn't find a HB, but they pulled her out and she is fine!) General anaesthetic.

    Four years later...
I was a vaginal delivery, with forceps. Mum said no one ever mentioned another CS just because she had had one before, it was just assumed that i would be a VBAC. Nitrous for pain relief.

    What about you?

My older sister was born in a private hospital in London.
My older brother was born at home in London.
I was born in the sunroom of our farmhouse in the English countryside.
My younger brother was born in hospital in Australia because no Dr would accept Mum for a homebirth - she drove herself to hospital, birthed my brother then walked out of the hospital and drove herself and my brother home again as soon as she had had a cuppa and something to eat

Interesting question...and of course, my mum is off harrassing Collingwood supporters in Melbourne (she's the worst one-eyed Eagles fan you'll ever meet) so I can't even ask her right now...

    I do know the following:

My brother was born in 1972 not sure where, I was 1981 Glengarry Hospital in Perth and my sister was 1990 at Dalwallinu hospital (small country town in WA) - yes, that is a child every 9 years. All vaginal births, no idea about pain relief though. Apparently my brother was the boof, I was in the middle (how unusual) and my sister was the titch. Not much has changed really

1989 elective cs Mercy east Melbourne due to fact that mum requested it and she had 2 previous cs and was 39 years of age

    Oh, what a cool question!

I was born in Scotland in 1984. First child, I have a younger brother. She was induced at around 2 weeks over due by having her waters broken. Pretty sure mum used gas and had a shot of pethadine that she didn't really feel made a whole lot of difference. Unassisted delivery as far as I'm aware. She says it was a nice little country hospital where she was pretty much left to get in with things. Sounds perfect to me!
Both her births went pretty much the same way, although I'm not sure about the pain relief.

1976 Pakenham Bush Nursing Hosptital in Pakenham Victoria (doesn't exist as a hospital anymore).
Had Braxton Hicks and went into hospital a couple of times before coming home.
Waters broke at Approx. 4pm, dropped my sister off at my grandparents then had me at about 5.20pm, no pain relief, natural birth, unassisted but Dr was present.
1975 same hospital as me. My sister was previously born with a labour of approx. 26hr layout but was in Hospital for 13 days prior b/c waters was leaking, so she was bed ridden. Natural birth, unassisted and gas for paid relief.

1983 same hosptial as all of us. Brother born 7 years later, hospitalized for 1 day then she had him natural but with gas.

I am the one and only, born on my due date, within an hour of getting to Ballarat Base hospital as mum refused to believe she was in labour because babies never arrive on their due date Drug free vaginal birth. I arrived just in time for dinner and I haven't been late for dinner ever since

It was the early 70's, I was delivered by the midwife as the ob had a septic finger or something. Mum stayed in for 10 days due to developing a rash. I was mainly in the nursery and brought to her every 4 hours for a feed! I was BF for 6 weeks.

I was born in the birth centre (I think!) at ballarat base hospital in 1990. Mum used has for pain relief and birthed me on her knees on the bed, leaning over the bed rail. It was a double bed apparently and dad got to stay with her while mum was there recovering Apgars 9 and 10.

My brother was born in 1992 at ballast base, in the birth centre, in the same room, and he was delivered by the same midwife. Mum had gas and peth and my brother was pretty unresponsive when born, apgars of 4 and 8.

I was born in the mid 70's. I was due on the 24th of May, my mum was induced on the 11th of June. It was a 6 hour labour, no pain relief and no stitches.

End of 70's for me. Mum gave birth at St Vincent's Private in Melb. She was induced after being there for a week with high blood pressure, after being on home bedrest for three weeks before that. I was a forceps delivery with stitches, one week early and I was born blue as she wasn't breathing properly. Put into a humidicrib (sp?) for three days.

    I am the 8th of 9 children

    Sister - 1974 in Townsville
    Sister - 1975 in Townsville
    Sister - 1976 in Townsville
    Sister - 1977 in Redcliffe
    Brother - 1980 in Redcliffe
    Brother - 1982 in Redcliffe
    Brother - 1984 in Redcliffe
Me - 1985 Somewhere in Redcliffe
    Sister - 1988 in Redcliffe

All of us were natural births (using gas for pain) with no complications and all breastfed. Labour with me was around 20 mins, didn't even make it to the hospital so I was born into my mum's hands in the Ambulance

I don't know much about how I came into the world... mum tends to clam up and change the subject whenever I ask. What I do know is that I was born via c-sec under GA at a private hospital in Cairns, at term (not sure what my EDD was), and was breastfed for a short time (whether that means 'until going home from hospy' or 'for 6 weeks' or what, I don't know, she's tetchy about BF talk, too!).
My little brother was also born via c-sec under GA, at the same hospital in Cairns, and flown to Brisbane immediately as he was premature and had fluid on his lungs - apparently at the time ('89) no hospitals in Cairns were equipped to deal with whatever complications he had (I believe he also had a hernia which was operated on later?) so Dad had to make the decision to go with him to Brisbane and leave poor mum to wake up on her own with no idea what had happened I only just found that out recently, I knew he was born premmie and with fluid on the lungs, I didn't know he'd had to go all the way to Brisbane. I do remember visiting him in hospital, he was in a humidicrib, and both my parents were there so he must have come back from Brisbane and spent some time in the Cairns hospital before we all went home - I turned 3 six days after he was born so the memories are pretty vague.

I was born in RBWH in 1981, the day before my due date - my mum had a 36 hour drug free labour.

Brother 1 was born in the RBWH in 1982 - also a drug free labour but only 2 hours long.

Brother 2 was born in Ayr in 1984 - drug free labour, don't know how long.

Brother 3 was born in Ayr in 1985 - drug free labour, don't know how long.

Brother 4 was born in Townsville in 1988 - went into labour spontaneously but mum was given syntocin to get him out sooner and no pain relief. Mum said the other labours hurt but she seriously thought that she was going to die during that labour. She said she didn't think that her body could take anymore. The reason she was given for the drip was that her doctor needed to get home because he wanted to watch a football game. She said that birth left her extremely traumatised.

My DH and my best friend were born two days apart in the same hospital ... I think that is pretty cool. They were both sent to the nursery so they would have been hanging out together in there

I am the 3rd oldest out of 5 kids.

First born was stillborn at 24 weeks, she had turners syndrome and had no bladder which is why she died.

Second, August 1985 she was born 10 days over as far as i am aware.

Me, December 1988, born at 38 weeks because my mum had very high blood pressure she was induced, she haemorraghed afterwards and almost died.

Fourth, October 1989, wasn't planned. Born at 39 weeks and had to be in a humdicrib for a few days she wasn't breathing properly.

Fifth, September 1994, was planned born at 37 weeks i believe and my mum had complications throughout was in and out with bleeding.

My mum said she had epidurals with each of us as we were all born posterior. We were all natural.

I was born in May 1979 at Bentley Hospital, Perth. I arrived the day before my due date. Dad was late, in a meeting and Mum was sped to hospital by my Uncle. I was vacuumed out, Mum was high on Gas, and Dad feinted (once he got there!). Mum lost a tonn of blood and needed a transfusion...the doctor also stitched her THIGH (yes that's right....Mum was so happy to get him to come back from is boat trip...HAHA...incompetant loser!)

My Sis was born in Manly Hospital, Sydney in September 1983 induced, born naturally (Maybe gas....?), breech bum first.

    My Mum rocks!
