    Length of post partum bleeding....

Just wondering if this is normal because it is a bit different than my loss with dd1 and ds.

I had a great birth, with normal blood loss (as opposed to my previous birth when I had a PPH). I had no stitches etc etc.

I did notice in the early weeks, that I would often feel a "gush"of blood coming out, and while it was heavy, it never soaked a pad etc etc.

Anyway, bleeding subsided to yellowish discharge (TMI) then nothing at about 6wks, then about 5 days later is started all over again, and hasn't been heavy, but I have had a few gushes again, and it is still has lots of membraney stuff in it....

I am getting up to 8 wks post partum now...

I am seeing my GP next week anyway, but would appreciate any one elses experience with this.

    Thanks

Probably not what you want to hear but the same thing happened to me and it turned out I had retained placenta. I had to have a d&c 12 weeks post partum. I hope that's not the case for you.. Could it be AF? I got AF when DD was 4 weeks old and DS was 16 weeks old and they were both fully BFed!

Could you possibly ring the hospital you had bub at and ask to speak to a midwife. With both my DS's losses were finished within 3 weeks and normally after 1week they were really light.

Ive had the same hun, and DH tells me i did after DD1 too (lol i cant remember anything). I had the usual bleeding you mensioned until about 5 weeks. It stopped for about 4 days then started again and was full on. I was wearing maternity pads and they were getting soaked. Had a few tiny tiny clot like things. That calmed down after 2 days and then lasted about 6 or so days. I had another 4 days of nothing and then started again just like a normal period though.. so could it be you are just getting your first period? I cant remember, are you BF or FF? If youre getting bad cramps with it then id prob get it checked out but sounds normal to me.

I suck & always bleed for at least 2 months. Longest has been 11 weks & shortest I think was 9 weeks. Im at 10 days PP now & still have a"regular" flow type bleeding.

Thanks guys, I guess I will just wait it out and see what my GP says next week. I am fully BF now but was doing half FF and half EBM from week2 till week 4, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It is just the "gushing" feeling that is worrying me a bit.... Thanks again.

Yep, could be what they call, retained product of conception (not a very nice term if you ask me) so I would get it checked as soon as you can to be safe.

With all 3 I bled for 6 weeks then got AF 2 weeks after the bleed.

Agree it might be AF. I had normal bleeding then nothing then what i thought was AF (was bummed!). this coincided with my 6 week check up with my ob. When i mentioned it to the midwife first she said that it is most likely just more bleeding but when the ob checked, he said that it was AF (could tell by the way things felt i guess!!!). IF it's any consolation, i didn't get another one for about 3 months after that, so fingers crossed!!!

I going through the exact same thing got to the yellowish discharge for a few days then bang bleeding again full on again at 4 weeks and still going and i have passed tissue/membrainy bits but i have passed that type of stuff with all my babies and never had a retained placenta the bleeding always stopped by 4 weeks the difference with this bub is i had a c section and the placenta was manually removed so i couldnt have any retained products and i am heading to 7 weeks now and its still bright red and i am having pain in my c section area so i am at a loss.

i had similar too. with the gradual lessening and a break and then a gush and again some bleeding. turned out that i had some retained membrane (most likely some amniotic sac as placenta was intact). my MW got me to book into the sonographer to have a look around. but they took a week and by that time it had cleared up by itself. my midwife did say to keep a close eye on it while it was happening and to keep a check on its smell, pain and if i have any temps (just to check for infection etc)
