I am 33weeks pregnant and have been experiencing a lot of pain for the past 5 or so weeks now. From the moment i stand up i get a intense pressure in my pelvic region like my muscles are working overtime to hold into the baby..
My hips constantly pop and i can feel that they are misaligned. I also have scoliosis so feel a lot of pain in the lower back region and have been told by a chiro for the past few years that my pelvis tends to shift..
I have told my obgyn about this problem and he seemed quiet worried that perhaps bub will be too big and that my ligaments could be stretched too much. He said that i would have to be careful in my day to day and be sure to relax, and that natural childbirth could cause me to fracture something.
has anyone else heard of anything like this before?
There are a lot of women (myself included) who have serious hip issues in pregnancy and go on to have a vaginal birth with no long lasting effects. Equally there are women whose hip and pelvic issues either result in a long lasting issue after vaginal birth, or who are advised medically to go for a CS. I have no personal experience with scoliosis, but do know of women with a mild condition who have given birth vaginally without issue. There is no right or wrong answer for what is best for you.
My advice would be to speak to the chiro you have been seeing and find out his/her opinion. They know your skeleton best, and the strains that might push it too far. Also discuss with your OB what he feels the likelihood is of injury. Perhaps discuss birthing positions (for example and epiduralised woman laying on her back is more likely to be in a bad position for her pelvis during birth, an all fours position may be better but would require no epidural) and use all the information based on your own specific medical condition to make a decision.
