It's 9 days since I gave birth, and in the shower just now, I passed a 50c piece size blood clot. I can't remember how long after birth it's normal to pass clots for? My lochia has gone from light pinkish yesterday, to bright red today. There's not a lot, but the clot has me a little concerned. Until now, I hadn't passed any clots since maybe 2 days PP.
TIA!
I was passing clots the size of toy cars yesterday while at the hospital and we needed to get that to stop before they would let me go home. Before I left they said if I get any more clots or bleeding to lay down and massage the uterus again. I'd be able to feel if its hard or feel it go hard under my fingers.
Give that a go and see if that helps the bleeding - but if not I'd go see your doctor for advice.
i had a scare with my eldest, it was like day 6 or so.. it was a clot the size of a 50c blob. I rang the maternity ward of the hospital and asked.. they asked had i soaked a pad in a small amount of time? nope... then they said it was probably just blood that pooled and nothing to worry about (unless my flow got heavier) it did make sense to me about the blood pooling as i was sleeping and had just gotten up.
With DD2 my flow would change daily.. id go from thinking oh yay anyday it will finish to drats its red and heavy again *sigh*
Sorry i dont know how long that goes on for! Surely someone will answer with that soon
i had a huge clot 2 weeks after DD was born - it was about the size of my DH's fist so significant in size. lochia had almost stopped, started again when i went walking, and a few days later, passed this and it pretty much stopped again. i rang the middies at the hospital - they said if i felt ill or dizzy after passing it, if bleeding became much heavier, or if it had a bad smell (may be infected) to get to doc or hospital, but otherwise it's "normal".
she said its normal for this to happen for a week or 10 days post vb, about a week longer than that for cs. nice of them to warn me about that BEFORE i was discharged...
