"Practising" for giving birth? (WAAAAY TMI!)

This is embarrassing, but I need to know other people do it... Does anyone else kinda practise giving birth while they're on the loo? I've realised that if I'm having a little trouble doing number twos, I'll mentally go into my "calm space" and regulate my breathing as though I'm in labour It actually helps! I know it's going to be quite different with a real baby, and you know, it's not going to be coming out of the same place, but it feels like I'm getting some practise in

Please, please, please tell me I'm not the only nut that does this!

Ummmmmm this isn't such a good idea to help with your pelvic floor though Teni My physio went very mad at me for doing this so yes, I have done this!!!

Have you read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth? There are quite a few similarities between the two!!

It certainly felt to me like it was coming out of the same place! I know what you mean though.

I tell you what I use my 'breathe through the pain' and wiggling my fingers and toes distraction a lot now to cope with painful things and it always reminds me of getting through labour.

We were taught that by my calm birth instructor. I think I even told PZ about it LOL!

If you breathe really slowly out as you are "pushing" you don't need to strain LOL it's weird but it works.

Posture and straining can both have negative impact on the pelvic floor muscles.

Ohh okay In that case, that's not how I was (*cough*am*cough*) doing it. I don't really strain, more relax and try to let my body do its thing (and desperately wish I could describe it more accurately ) instead of straining/pushing IYKWIM?

I can't say that I tried it BUT check out THIS article from the main BB site. It's called Birth As A Bowel Movement!

    Very similar!!

you know what, thats how the contractions started with dd, like realy bad need to do a difficult poo pains i was actualy sitting on the toilet, just incase, but mum was instructed when she rang the ambos to get me off there befor i had her in the loo
but after that they got alot more intence.
maybe do some pelvic floor exercises when you have a chance, to try strengthen them?

Ever since Rouge told ne about this, I hardly need to push and dont ever strain Takes a tad longer, but yeah, huge difference! Breathing, relaxing Good stuff!

Oh gosh, I'm not going to be able to look anyone in the eyes at the meet tonight for fear they've read this thread and know my pooing habits

I did similar when I was pregnant with Ianto, and when the time came I actually thought I was pushing a poo out instead of him Big surprise to have a baby slip out instead, let me tell you!

no you should only be worried if theve read it and you have to go the toilet, they might guess what ur doing!! j/ks
when i had ds2, the midwife tried to forced me to do one as "it makes more room for the baby to come out and its less difficult" had a few choice words for her almost everytime she opened her mouth!

Well, my midwife told me to push like I was doing a huge poo, and it worked and I pushed out a baby instead of poo....so I guess the theory is correct.

Well I thought had constipation when the birthing waves started and when it came time to push my body took over like it was a big BM. I certainly did not want to leave the loo at the time, it was the best position (*grumble about being made to go back to the bed*)

The relaxing the jaw thing really works. When you relax your jaw, you relax the sphincter. Relaxed breathing works for either so you don't end up having to strain and push with either bub or BM. (saying that I had to push with bub. Don't know if it was the position or because I was a 1st timer, but the whole "breathe the baby out" thing didn't happen for me)

I was laying in the bath and telling everyone if I could just do this huge poo, then I would get down to pushing the baby out. They kept saying that is your baby...... for some reason I didn't believe them??
