should i just go and plan a c section?

I was at the hospital last night getting some pains checked out ne ways she asked how my first was born i said by c/s and i tild her how i am aiming for a VBAC and she told me the likely hood of that is basicly not good. Now i am wondering should i just plan a c/s and be done with it? or should i just see what happens?

    Hi Beautifulmadness,

I am in the same situation as you, had an emergency CS with DS and am expecting in 2 weeks and trying for a VBAC. My opinion is that I would really like a VBAC but am realistic that it COULD end up in antoher CS. My prefereance is most definately a VBAC but at the end of the day I want a healthy baby and will do whatever it takes to get bubs home safely...

I will be going with the flow...

    Good luck xx

Maybe you should list the reasons why you want a VBAC. That should give you enough strength about your decision. xoxoxo

    I agree with Lulu.

I think if you really want the VBAC, you'll make the right decision. I would have LOVED to have had one, but wasn't meant to be.

If you dont' think you are strong enough - or are still undecided - research it. Read "Silent Knife" for one.

The decision you make needs to be one that you are happy with in your own heart and which you won't regret later. I agree that doing some reading and listing the pros and cons out are good ideas. At the end of the day you need to do what's right for you.

FWIW though, I think that's a terrible thing that the mw (or doctor?) said. Nothing is going to make a VBAC fail like negative thoughts and worry. No wonder so many people don't follow their dreams and try for a VBAC. There are many people who have successful VBACs, and if that's what you want then the best way to make it happen is it be well prepared and feel positive. Have you read New Active Birth at all? If not I suggest you do. It is the single biggest reason why I had a fantastic, drug free (well except for gas!) vaginal birth with my second DS.

At the end of the day you have to do what is comfortable with you! Doctors and nurse's are to quick to give you thier opinion...only you know your body and what it is capable of doing.

Will you regret not trying for a VBAC and having an elective c/s straight up????

Even if you do end up having another emergency c/s atleast honey you can be proud that you atleast tried to have a VBAC!

Just remember with an elective c/s your baby hasnt had a chanch to get in the birth channel and atleast press some of the fluid out so be prepared for your baby to have a short stay in special care nursary.

    Goodluck

Did the person who said that to you give any specifc reason/s why they thought so, or just make the comment with no explanation to you?

You need to do whatever you're the most comfortable with, Im just hoping that they at least explained the reasoning behind what they said to you rather than just an off the cuff remark.

Bah she's just a negative nancy who obviously doesn't support women going for a VBAC.

Surround yourself with SUPPORTIVE people babe - you can do this if this is what you really truly want.

Our bodies were made for this. May as well give it a whirl.

    Hi!

In my experience, you will get differing opinions from just about every midwife and doctor that you meet. If VBAC is important to you, I agree with Lulu - physically write out a list of why VBAC is what you want, and if necessary carry it with you. This will help you stay strong, and not be unduly influenced. Also, try not to let it get to you, be positive, and remember it is just their opinion

    Good luck

    xx

I had an emergency c-section for DS and a VBAC without complication 18 months later with DD. It can be done. Happy to answer any questions you may have but don't let them undermine your confidence in what you and your body can do.

Pfft - no reason you can't second guess HER opionion rather than your choice. Mentally flip her the bird and move on. You know she is wrong and sucky for saying that..

Unless there is some good medical reason as to why it's unlikely you will have a VBAC I'm completely shocked as to why that would be said to you!! I had a VBAC almost 2 years ago and will go for my second VBAC in a couple of months. It can be done but like it's been said you need to surround yourself with positive people and thoughts. I recommend hypnobirthing as an invaluable tool to help with the mental and relaxation side of things. I hope you get your VBAC if that's what you're aiming for!

Lots of people go on to have VBAC. I think that MW was very wrong in putting that doubt in your mind. The best thing to do if you want a VB is to go in knowing that this is what you want and how you are going to achieve it, but be open to the possibility that you may need a Ceser if it comes to that.

    Hi BeautifulMadness,
you don't know why the midwife said that. She might have had ytour best interests at heart. Do you know what the hospital's VBAC rate is? She might have just been being very honest with you - that hospital might only have a 3 or 4% VBAC rate, and she's merely saying that therefore the likelihood of your succesding is not very good. Do you have someone with you for birth support?
