I always find it strange that some OBs, especially in the US, want to do an internal at 35 weeks or even earlier, it really does not give any useful information. I also agree with the other girls, there is a chance of introducing bugs when doing an internal. However to answer your question.
From your description I would say that you are 50% effaced and about 1cm dilated. At 35 weeks this is not significant also it is only an estimation based on the average woman and your description of what you felt. At this stage in your pregnancy I would expect your cervix to feel soft and a little mushy however I am not sure what the bumps are, perhaps just some skin folds.
