    Third birth. Faster?

Curious to know, will number 3 be faster?

DD1 - approx 4 hours from 1st cx to placenta, 4 stitches in, 4 out. Not sure on pushing time as I don't have notes. Normal position. gas only

DD2 - induced via pitocin, 2.5hrs, 10 mins of pushing. Posterior. episiotomy. Gas only.

Do you think DD3 will be shorter labour & shorter pushing time? Will cx be stronger this time around?

    TIA.

It is hard to know, I have known some to be super fast, some to be slower. They can be the trick labours just to confuse!

A friend of mine her 1st was a 15 hrs labour (into labour on EDD had baby next day), 2nd was 38 weeks and 2 hrs labour her 3rd was an induction at 10 days over and was a 5 hr labour!!!

    Good luck

They say the 3rd birth is a wild card. It could go either way.
In my case it was faster & my contractions were a lot stronger.

    Same for me.

My 3rd was the quickest out of 4 births, but less painful and contractions were much easier to manage

Everyone is different but my labour times were very similar to yours, my 3rd was 56 mins. It was a much easier labour than the other 2, I don't know if that's because I was a lot calmer though.

    Third birth. Faster?

Don't know about mine yet, and it'll be my first spontaneous labour in any case, but my mum's third labour was much quicker than her first (me) and I think around the same length as her second. That second baby was premature though, so I reckon if he'd been full-term it would have taken a bit longer. Pure speculation in my part...

In short, in my family the third seems to go quickly

My third was my fast by far but she also had the smallest head and there was lots of pre labour. She was out 40 mins after I arrived at the hospital.

My first was 8 hours second was 1 hour 45 minutes and my third was 4 hours, so my third was shorter than my first but linger than my second, although my third also had the biggest head at 37 cm presenting with an arm up beside his head, so I think his position made the birth a bit slower. I didn't find the contractions any different from my previous births in their intensity. Good luck!

My first was 12 hours from waters breaking to birth, no pre labour. Second and third I had a bit of pre labour (a few days of occasional mild cramping) - I had been told that third babies can 'muck around' a bit, but my second did that too. With my second my waters didn't break until she was ready to come out, so it is hard to know when labour 'officially' started. I say it was around a 6 hour labour. My third was just under 10 hours from waters breaking to birth, but contractions didn't get regular for quite a while. So we count that one as about 4 hours of active labour. So I guess my labours did get shorter each time. As for intensity of the pain, I don't know that the pain was any less, but I was better prepared the second and third times and I managed to stay focused and didn't have any pain relief (except water injections for the back pain I had for no. 3).

My first was 36 hours of labour, second 20 minutes and my third was about 2.5 hours of active labour. She was posterior throughout and was born that way so very ouchy. Despite that though I found the contractions were nowhere near as strong as DD2's, and it wasn't until she was literally one contraction off crowning that I really thought we were even getting anywhere.

I had been to hospital twice with DD3, absolutely convinced I was in labour. She kept me guessing with a whole heap of false labour and each time the midwives told me the same as the other ladies have said - #3 is the wildcard and your previous births meant little in guessing how #3 would go.

Interesting thread... I am pregnant with #3 and keen to know too. My DD was 10hrs 45mins (start to finish) I managed it all quiet well. My DS was 3hrs 10mins (start to finish) and it was super intense, didn't handle it quiet as well. Dreading doing it all again.

I hope this doesnt hijack the thread, but do you count inductions? DS1 was a natural birth, a toral of 21 hours from first contraction to birth. However, DS2 was an induction at 23 weeks and his was just under 8 hours. Do I count that as an indicator of how this birth might go?

I'm curious if this one will be shorter or longer as well.

ETA - DS1 was vaginal breech. I dont know if that has an effect of birth timing. I realise posterior births can take longer because of positioning but I dont know about breech.

I guess inductions count - you still birth for xx hrs I was induced for #2.

I imagine breech births would be longer? I'm not sure!
