For those who had a less than 10hr labour first time around.....

    Was your second labour faster??

I had a 9.5hr natural (drug free) vaginal labour and birth with DD including 2hr pushing stage.....I was pretty happy for my first bub that the whole experience was so short!
Considering DD was posterior the entire time until the pushing stage also, it was a short labour. I often wonder, had DD not been posterior, would the labour have been shorter!! Because they do say when a baby is in that position it does slow things down a bit.
She was posterior from when labour started up until pushing stage.
I'm this bub isn't going to be posterior. Apparently it's more common with first babies so that's good!

My midwife I saw last week told me to prepare for what could be a labour in half the time, so about 4-5hrs or even less.....it seems very common.

So was your 2nd labour and subsequent one's faster and by how much??

    Thanks

My first was roughly 9hrs total labour and DD2 was about 5hrs, i too was told i should expect it could be half the time or faster.
DD1 was 20min after my waters broke and DD2 was 8min after my waters broke so basically half again there too.

oooh wow! They were fast labours huh! That's good to hear anyway! I would be disappointed if the labour was longer 2nd time around cos' you kinda expect it to be shorter each time - kwim?

first was 8 hrs from first twinge, 5 hrs actual labour.
second was 4 hrs...with no 'warning'.

my sist got progressively faster, as did my friend.

My labour with DS1 was 8 hours, 20 minutes pushing. Labour with DS2 was much shorter, 1 hour and 50 minutes including 10 minutes pushing stage. Seems that most of the time subsequent labours are faster as your cervix has already dilated before and your body seems to remember what it needs to do. I loved my second labour, I'd do it again in an instant!

DD1 was 1.5 hours spontanious labour
DD2 was 1/2 hour induced on a slow drip just to get contractions started

DD1 was 8 hours (2 hours pushing) spontaneous at 40+3
DD2 was just over 2 hours (20mins pushing) induced via ARM (no drip as contractions started immediately on waters being broken) at 39+4

Second was 12 hours and pushing fo over an hour, keep in mind these were 12 years apart though and Ds was stuck and they made be labour on my back when i was progressing faster standing.

My first was induced and start to finish 4 hrs
2nd was 5 min couldn't feel contractions but got to hospital and his head was 2 cm out
3rd induced start to finish 2 hrs (I think maybe less)
4th from start to finish 1 and a half

And even though some induced never had any pain relief

    So definently quicker

Out of my two inductions my labour time halved exactly from my first to my second (3hrs down to 90min). With my natural labour it was 2hrs. So all up both my subsequent labours were shorter than my first. I often wonder if my second natural labour will be 1 hour to fit with the halving time theme lol

Wow! Awesome thread! Even though I had a 16 hr labour that ended in c-sect it still gives me hope that this labour will be shorter!

Good luck Ren, you will no doubt be a birthing superstar again!
