Remember though that your body is naturally designed to stretch. Don't be fearful that it wont be capable... it will do it. Keep off your back, keep active and birth in water results in less tearing as well as bearing down. Directed pushing makes it more likely to tear too. The Epi-No is for the perineum...

I've got one but I haven't used it at all! I think manual stretching is just as effective and gets you more in touch with your body.
I completely agree with Kelly. Our bodies are absolutely amazing the way we can birth our babies. Your body really does know what to do and will be able to do. I've seen some women birth 10 - 11lb babies without so much of a tear.
I haven't ever used the product as I believe it will stretch as much as it needs. One thing that I have personally found to make a huge difference is how the perenium is managed as the head is being born - with my last birth, my baby's head was a lot larger than the previous three were and I only got a very small graze that didn't need stitches - the previous three times I had an episiotomy and 2 2nd degree tears that all required stitches. They were all birthed the same way with me breathing them out once they crowned.
thanks everyone.. i will keep your thoughts in mind...
kelly.. i would absolutely love to birth in the water but unfortunately our hospital has a policy where you can't give birth in the tub![]()
