I think if you need to do it do it. when im looking after a woman un labour i also see what else they are doing with their screaming. If its working for them i leave it. if they seem to be loosing control or all their energy is being put into the screaming and stoping them push i get them to stop by my breathing with them sometimes i even mimic their sounds (part if being with women). then all that extra energy i get them to use in pushing or rocking.

I deliberately keep it low, as a high tone can make me feel panicky. I breathe in slowly and then vocalise a long aaaahhh as I breathe out.
