I am really wondering about the stats he quoted? How on earth could that be right, when there are so many more higher-risk births taking place in hospital? And so many more inductions? I don't get it, and I wish they'd be more specific about where they get their information. So frustrating.
I think the Obs statistics come from studies that compare all hospital births to all births outside hospital. This would include freebirths (no midwife), unplanned homebirths, babies born on the way to hospital (car, ambulance, side of road) as well as homebirths with qualified midwifes.
