    What volume when waters "trickle"?

    Hello,

I just can't tell if I'm getting trickling aminotic fluid or wee! Its not a lot volume wise and I can't detect any semen smell...

If you could describe your experiences, I would be really greatful!!!

Mine just trickled, not gushed. But I did feel a bit of a "pop" before they started coming out. If it doesn't smell like wee, its probably not....

Looks like you're going to have a baby...!

How much did they trickle Amberj - like a couple of teapoons, soak your knickers, fill a pad?

I'm only getting a wet patch in my knickers, not soaking it, a teapsoon kind of vloume. Am I over-reacting?

    Hey Winter!
    How exciting!
My waters started with what I called a "trickle" - I'd say a tablespoon or so while I was lying down... but when I stood up there was more, like 1/4 cup, 1 pad?? In the car on the way to hospital I soaked through another pad, and then when I stood up getting out of the car I had a bigger gush - like a cup, maybe? My trackies were soaked through. Maybe your waters have broken 'higher up" and your bub's head is blocking the flow??
    Have a great birth!!

    Hi Winter
When your waters break it can be anything from a very large gush to just a small wet patch on your undies. To get an idea if it is your waters or not try this:-
Go to the toilet and have a wee, make sure that you empty your bladder. Now stand up and have a couple of big coughs. Stand in front of the sink with your feet apart. Put your hands on the sink and lean forward as if you were vomiting. (ah remember that position from the first trimester!!!!). Now sway your hips in a circular motion. If you get a leak when you cough or when you swing your hips then there is a chance that your waters have broken.
Just remember that these tests are not perfect and are only a guideline. If you are unsure it would be a good idea to get things checked. There is no need to dash to the hospital now, the morning will be fine.

Hi Alan, Thanks for that hint! I tried it and nothing came out so I'll just do the wait and see thing, I think! Phew!

I'm over reacting and stressing because DH is away and doesn't get back until tomorrow night!

Thankyou to Campari for the volumes. That doesn't sound like me at all, so I'm just going to go to bed and relax and see what the morning brings.

Mine broke in the bath, so it took me a few minutes to realise that it wasnt' just bath water! It continued slowly but continuously ALL day. The difference was it did not stop at all. I put a pad in and went to hospital for testing, they said it was waters, and I went home and didn't go back until about 12 hours later when bubs was born.

Thats interesting Mumma2girls, I was told that they couldnt break in the bath or pool, because the water pressure would stop it happening?

When my waters broke, I had a small trickle after going to the loo and i actually thought I had just peed myself, and then it happened again, after changing into clean knickers and the third attempt to put cean knickers on the just went, there was no pop, no pain... nothing just a sudden gush of clear liquid. I was however only 28 weeks pregnant, so I'm not sure whether that makes a difference to the popping sensation or not?

I had the popping sensation with DS. It was a bit faster than a trickle though.
I had a small trickle with DD1. No pop, but I was asleep. I used a pad & it wasn't full after a few hours, so very small. It stayed a trickle, where as DS's stayed about that a,ount more iykwim.

Not sure where you're at now, Winter, but I wanted to share (sorry if it's TMI!) that for lots of women the fluids can really pick up another notch in the final weeks (I had a similar thing and asked the middies about it - I had to change from panty-liners to pads in the last couple of weeks). I believe this is called leukorrhea and its a clear, possibly whitish discharge. It is all good - not your waters, but a sign that you're getting nearer to birth. And of course, just another of those charmingly pleasant things that we put up with in pregnancy!
