    Question Why do things stop?

I am feeling a little confused and discouraged this morning....

I spent all of yesterday feeling really yucky.- started about 10am....intense back pain and nausea, a small white / clear show and then at about 11pm stabbing pains in my abdomen.

Finally went to sleep at about 1ish and woke up this morning and everything has stopped again.... even my sore back is gone....

So I guess I am feeling a little messed around .... I expected to wake up this morning feeling at the very least the same or even better maybe a little worse just so I know that things are happening but at the moment I honestly feel fine.....

Why would this happen? Is it just another bleeding false alarm and he's not actually doing anything yet or is it common for things to stop like this???

Any advice would be appreciated as mentally I am starting to feel like my head is caving in....

Damn pre-labour, it has a lot of explaining to do! Just know that it's your body doing good work now so hopefully there will be less work for it to do when you do go into labour. And like Lulu said, hopefully it makes for a nice quick labour!

But yep, it's so normal for your body to stop and start during pre-labour. Use the times that it stops to rest, you will need lots of energy soon

i think a nice way to view this stage of 'pre-labour' is as the others have said; it is all part of the process. so although we cannot term it as 'labour' you are in fact getting ready to push that baby out! quite possibly you're cervix is getting all ready (and maybe also dialating!). Nothing in pre-labour is wasted and i like to think of it as a way for your body to prepare bubs as well for the upcoming event!

soon this little person will be cuddling up on your chest and all this waiting will fade into distant memory. sooo exciting!

I know that it's all working towards it but it's just soooooo frustrating as this is the 3rd time things have gone on for long enough for us to go ....right this is it.....

I feel like a moron because I wait for ages to say anything to DF and then I do and he gets all excited - only for it to die in the arse the next day....

I think he's starting to think I am attention seeking or something

Dee, I'm beginning to know how you feel. I have had really bad back pain for the last few nights, two nights ago I started having "belly pains" (refusing to call them contractions) which we constant and painful for 2hrs then stopped.

Back pain went away, normal day.

Last night, no pains in the belly but back pain... then pains in the belly started at about 7am... now my back hurts still but belly pains have gone away.

It is so confusing - what are our bodies doing??? People keep saying its good prelabour stuff and I know it is, I know it is... but at the same time I get so excited and it all stops.

I, like you, wait before saying anything to DH, then I do and it stops. He didn't go to work this morning until like 10.30am just in case...

Til something happens, I'll be the one sitting on the couch with my heat pack, RLT and phone.

    Sigh!

A lot of the time, prodromal labour is about getting your baby in a really good position. The better the position of the baby's head, the better the pressure on your cervix and the more encouragement for dilation. It is discouraging though, and exhausting, to keep getting wound up, thinking "this is it!" and you begin to feel a bit silly telling people or ringing the hospital.

Just try to get as much rest as you possibly can, because it *will* happen soon, even if it doesn't feel like it!

    Thanks ladies....

LOL Rainy glad it's not just me hun!!

DouDou - no I don't have a fitball but I am spending more time laying on my side than on the couch as sitting over my tummy is a bit painful....

Just came home from the midwife and saw one I haven't seen before and she reckons that he's a "9lb PLUS" baby and I should be open to pain relief, episiotomy, forceps and possibly even a c-section......

    Hmmmmm ok then

whatttttttttttttttt! a BC midwife said that????

I know .... before seeing her I felt really capable and like I was made to do this and it's gonna be painful but I can achieve it ....

Now I am scared and not sure I will be able to do it ..... completely undermined my confidence

    YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

any way 9lb will feel the same as a 6lb baby to a first timer.
your about to take your body where it has never been. but your body made your baby for what you can do
