They can't take your temperature without your permission. If you have that in your birth plan and / or tell them that is what you want, then they can be sued for doing something against your will. As I mentioned in another post, i know many homebirth midwives leave the baby's cord attached even if it needs some oxygen because it has the benefit of the cord blood containing oxygen too - but in hospital if they want to give the baby oxygen or resuss, they cut the cord and take it away...
