Was booked in to be induced Friday but due to numbers was pushed back to Saturday. Awake at 4:50am i called the labour ward to make sure they had room, all was good so i got up, did some last minute packing, had brekky then DO and i headed to GCH.
6:15am we arrived and met a lovely midwife, J. Although shift change was coming up so we only had her for about 30 minutes. I was popped on a monitor to check bubs was happy and 90 minutes later the first lot of gels was inserted. DP thought he was a hero as he had to assist the midwife in opening the packet LOL. Bless.
9am i was moved to the maternity ward (a very packed maternity ward) to wait for labour to kick in. Started getting back pains and was a little queasy!
1:30pm i was walked back down to Labour ward to be reassessed. Cervix had shortened but still had a little way to go before they could break my waters so gel number 2 was inserted and after more monitoring was sent back up to maternity ward. Lots and lots of unbearable back pain!
8:30pm i was sent back to labour ward and they broke my waters...most painful experience at that point!!! They then put an internal monitor on bubs head and started the syntosin drip (i think thats what it was called). Was given a heat pack for my back, started to feel contractions.
Around 1am i was 5cm dilated and my back pain was so excruciating i decided to have an epi; apparently was the best epi this anaesthetist had ever done and within 20 minutes i was in heaven, no pain! SLEEP! DP & I slept on and off for a few hours... now it gets blurry...
Had the epi topped up some time around 4am, then about 8am it was time to push, just as i began to push i started getting pains again but the MW said there was nothing that she could do about them. My back was KILLING me and being strapped to the bed didnt help either! About an hour later i said no, something needs to be done i cant do this and the MW decided to check my epi which had come detached somehow so i was doing it all naturally....i was in the worst pain id ever experienced, & i have a pretty high pain threshold! So annoyed no one listened to me!
So after much discussion the docs took me to theatre where they fixed my epi & got bub out with forceps! Poor little puddin has a bruise & headache from the whole experience! So glad they didnt have to give me a CS as that was our next option!
Am a little disappointed i was stuck in bed my whole labour but how can i complain when it gave me my gorgeous baby girl...
Laila Sue - middle name passed from my mum to me to my ladybug! Weighing in at 7p9o or 3445g. All the midwives are completely besotted with her lol. AND i have a 4 bed room to myself!!! Go figure!!!
She's feeding like a pro and right now is asleep on my chest
