    19th July 2008 - Hayden was in a hurry.

    So here goes...

I was due on the 24th July with bubba #2. He was planned right from the start.
We got pregnant the first month trying so we were over the moon.
The pregnancy was mostly good. Much different then DS#1, so we thought we had a pink bundle this time,
    but that wasn't to be.

I knew deep down that I'd have him early, just like DS#1 who I had at 39wks.
Since the maternity services here do alternative weekends with the next town we desperately wanted to have the baby here, and not have to drive the 20mins to the next hospital.
Getting BH on and off since 38wks. I kept thinking they'd eventuate into something more, but never did. Hopes dashed over and over. Lol.
So I get to 39wks and think I can last at least 3more days, then I'd know I'd be safe and get to have him here in this town with my own OB.
I was so confident I could last past friday and the weekend. I wasn't having any BH or anything, so I thought things were looking good.

Saturday 19th July, I get out of bed pleased with myself I got through one of the 3 days.
I felt a bit off and not really myself. At about 10:30am I started getting some slight cramps. They weren't anything to worry about and I just thought it was
just niggles and nothing major. I noticed I'd had some of the 'show'. I was almost crying my eyes out. No, I didn't want the baby to come out now. no no no.
I told DP and he didn't think much of it either, and since it was only a little bit of the 'show'.
The cramps slowly got worse. I just layed down and watched a movie and tried to block it out. I had panadol to give some relief, but it didn't work. Lol. It was worth a shot. :P
Had some more show. This time it was heapssss.

I had a sleep and woke around 4pm. The pains were worse. I had a shower and it helped while I was in there. I couldn't get coomfortable. I couldn't sit still, the only way I
could get through the pain was to stand up. We timed them but the times varied. Some close, some not so. Some lasted longer then the others too.
A about 5pm I finalised my hospital bag, cause I knew I'd be having the baby tonight or tomorrow.
5:30pm I msg'd my mum to let her know she'd prob get a call later to meet us at the hospital.
Helped DP get a bag ready for him and DS too all while struggling with the contractions.
About 5:45pm I agreed to let my DP called the hospital and made sure they wouldn't turn me down when we got there, cause of what happened with DS's birth and that whole deal.
The midwife was so so so nice and made me feel better.
Timed the contractions again and they were coming hard and fast. Maybe even 3mins apart.
I didn't wanna go to the hospital, but DP made me so off we go at about 6pm.

The drive was horrible, but just touching DP on the arm through every contraction made me feel safer for some reason.
We get to the hospital at about 6:30pm. Dump my stuff in a room, they get a urine sample cause I thought I needed to go to the toilet, but there wasn't hardly anything there.
Contractions strong and harder. I can't sit still. I stand and lean on the bed through them.
After 5mins in the hospital we make our way to the birthing room. Lucky it wasn't far away cause I don't think I could have waddled any further with the pain.
In the shower I go. Helped with the pain seeing as the contractions were starting to make the front of my legs hurt too. It was all in the hips and legs.
I think about 6:45pm I ask for some gas. It worked fantastically taking the edge off the pain.
Out of the shower, and I'm not sure how long I had the gas. Maybe 30mins?
They start monitoring his heart rate. Looking good. Steady.
Then the midwife takes it away and tells me it's time to get on the bed. She checks me out. Time to break my waters. I agree.
Well, the pushing and pulling and poking to break my waters. Oh geez. It hurt so so so much. They wouldn't break. It's like it was that tough like rubber off a balloon.
Finally a gush of fluid. Sigh of relief.

Things get a bit hazing here and I don't know the time frame of it all, but it was quite fast.

Amongst the monitoring of his heart rate, they doctors saying something about 'moulding' all the time. I think his head had stopped all the fluid from coming out when my waters were broken,
so the doctor had to move his head (I think) to let the rest out. All I know is it was so painful.
His head wasn't coming down. His heart rate was dropping but not coming back up after the contractions. Things were getting hectic and critical.
He needed to get out and now. His heart rate got to around 50.
At 7:50pm With me pushing has hard as I could, and the doctor pulling him at the same time we got him out in the end.
The cord was around his neck, but it wasn't tight, so we're not sure about the heart rate dropping so low so fast.
They think the cord might have been getting squashed between my pelvis and him or something, but who really knows.

    First APGAR score: 5
After the midwife gave him a few pats on the back he starts breathing. No oxygen needed. His cry was the best sound I'd heard all night.
    Second APGAR score: 9
    Such a relief.

I ended up needing a stitch, and they decided I'd get that stitch with just having gas. The gas didn't do anything.
It hurt so much, and the pulling of the thread stuff through my flesh...OMG! I'll never forget that feeling.
I did get high on the gas though. Lol!!!

The midwife explained what happened and why they did what they did to me a few times so I knew everything, even though it didn't sink in until days later.
They took blood from the cord to test, and also they sent away the placenta.
I was told the results from the cord blood had something about asphyxiation. I was very shocked and scared, but thankful he was alive and in my arms.
We were lucky to get him out then and there or who knows what would have happened.
We layed there in the birthing room for an hour skin to skin. It was a relief he was out and safe.

All in all the labour was all up about 4hrs.
Very fast and very very lucky to have a healthy beautiful boy at the end.

Oh honey you did such an amazing job! Well done in being able to put it down to! You should be really proud and i know Hayden is and always will be of his mummy.

I had a similar experience with Jesse's birth.. with his heart rate dropping and them needing to get him out quick. Scarey stuff hey. But what they did stitching you up with no local??? OMG thats terrible! I cant believe they did that! I can also relate with Jesse's birth in a way.. i had to have a skin tag removed and the OB did it with no local or anything. What are they thinking!?
But its all over now and you have Hayden in your arms and you can enjoy him for the rest of your life honey.. he is gorgeous.

Again congratulations on your birth.. you did so well hun
