    Adeles birth.

My day of induction loomed. I didn't want to be induced but being 12 days overdue and having some concerns about Adeles health, Sunday was the big day to get the prostin gel before being induced on Monday.

Sunday came and at 11am..... hey presto....contractions I was soo pleased that I atleast started to contract on my own.

By 2pm the contractions where 5 mins apart lasting about 45 seconds.

My midwife said to come into hospital anyway and see if I am dilating. If not then I was to have the gel and stay in overnight. I arrived at the hospital and I was 2cm dilated but the Ob still wanted me to have the gel. Bummer- overnight stay in hospital..yuk!

The prostin gel did seem to stir things up alittle with my contractions being 2.5 minutes apart. Problem was they stayed like that for the rest of the night. Unfortunatly- they sent my hubby home at 9pm so I was left on my own, all night, contracting every 2.5mins. I am still upset that not even one nurse came and checked on me the whole night. From 9pm-7am I didn't see a soul...it was a lonely, scary night

At 7am a midwife came in and said "their ready for you now". I told her I had not slept all night and was still contracting. She said "oh. Well, have a shower and I will come back and get you in 20 mins". She walked out the door. I was standing near the bed and I thought well...can you atleast help me take off my pants? Where are the towels? Can you help me get in the shower?...I called my husband in tears and he came in and helped me have a shower. He was pretty peed off to hear that noone had checked up on me. We were both upset they would let him stay the night.

    Anyway- moving on...LOL

I was taken over to the birthing suite where I met up with my own midwife- gee is was great to see her.

The ob was alittle concerned that I had been contracting throughout the night and did a VE. I was 4cm dilated but my cervix was still long. He decided to rupture my membranes. He suggested a half dose syntocin as he thought I was "going to to quick".

The contractions started coming thick and fast. I started to beg my midwife for a c-section. Throughout the whole pregnancy I had made it clear to my midwife that I did NOT want a c section and would do everything I could to not have one. My midwife reassured me "You can do this, your close...keep going" but I was not convinced.."Your lying- Im going to be contracting for hours...please....book the c-section..." I think about it now and laugh but at the time I was desperate for the pain to be over.

Adeles heartrate dropped suddenly and the midwife told me I had to stand up...I was saying I can't, I couldn't move...she told me I had to get up...NOW!

I stood with the help of DH. I started swaying my hips as the contractions. DH was massaging my back telling me how well I was going, how proud he was...I yelled back "Get me a general anesthetic"...he thinks thats funny even now...LOL

Suddenly I felt a drop and that unmistakable urge to push...I grunted and the midwife said "what are you doing"..I said "Having a baby!"...I turned and leaned over the bed...the midwife was trying to coax me into getting on the bed but I was staying put. She went to grab a mattress and just as she did I pushed and felt Adele slip out. I yelled out "Its coming"...DH dropped to his knees and caught her before she feel on the floor DH now says he should have yelled "HOWZAT!!!"

Adele had the cord wrapped around her neck and was blue. I heard DH saying "Is it breathing?"...then we heard her cry...

DH brought her over to me...and I feel in love instantly. She was beautiful. DH was crying, I was crying and Mum, who got there just in time was crying. It was a beautiful moment, filled with love and joy.

Adele Elizabeth was born 13 days post date, weighing 8lb 13oz, length 51.5. A little sister for my gumnut who is curious and fascinated by our new addition.

    Total labour time was 64mins

Now for a life time of love

Sounds like your DH could be the next Aussie wicket keeper What a story, I think you had every emotion covered and you did a fantastic job. I would like to know what that MW thought you could have been doing besides having your baby.

    Oh, AWESOME!!!!
It must have been scary being alone all night, I think that's so crap! Surely they could have assigned a midwife to check on your every hour or so, lord knows they bother you enough after the birth!! Im sorry that you had to do that alone
But totally WOW at the birth of her, how incredible and instinctual!! And way to go DH!!
    Enjoy your baby moon xX
