    The Birth of Madison Isabella

It's been over a year but I thought I'd share my story of the birth of my long awaited baby girl!

Waking up at around midnight on Friday 23rd july, I felt the familiar pains of early labour, which I was so relieved that something was FINALLY happening as she was 9 days overdue! I decided to go to the toilet to see if I had the show, as that was how my last 2 labours started. Sure enough, there it was! I woke my husband to tell him that I was in labour, his response: "Go back to sleep, it'll be a while yet... snore!" Thanks Honey, easy for you to say!
After a few hours of trying to sleep I decided to go downstairs and have a cup of tea and do a bit of housework before my 2 little boys woke up. By now my contractions were coming 15 mins apart but were nothing to worry about, they were bearable and things were going quite slow...

I got on with my day as usual, by 1pm nothing had changed so we decided to make our way to the hospital, just to see how things were going. I was seen by a midwife within 10 mins of arriving at the hospital and bubs heart rate and my contractions were monitered, which showed that they were still only 15 mins apart and very irregular. After a VE I was told I was only 2 cms dialted and bub would be a while yet! So I was sent home and told to 'have a nice evening with the husband...'

Around 6 that night things were still going very slowly, then I remembered I had a bbq with friends to go to that night. Well, I decided to go. If it was going to be a while I might as well spend it with friends and take my mind off things instead of moping around the house waiting for something to happen, I thought. Besides, the boys can play with their friends and I can relax! Boy, was I wrong! By 7pm when we arrived, my contractions started to get stronger. Luckily I was able to keep the fact that I was in labour hidden to most people and only my close friends knew. They were very supportive, which I am so thankful for!

By 9pm my contractions were 5 mins apart, and getting quite strong! Thankfully it was only my friend and her husband and daughter now, and we'd already made the decision to stay as Hubby wanted to watch the footy game with my friends husband, and my friend offered to watch the boys for the night while I was at the hospital! I was now unable to talk through the contractions and kept asking my husband to take me to the hospital. "But the game's not finished yet, and the contractions aren't 2 mins apart yet...!" (Men! ) Finally, towards the end of the game, my contracts were 2 mins apart and just as the final siren went at 10.30pm, my waters started to break! Luckily it was only a dribble and I didn't get any on my friends lounge where I was sitting, but it was at this time we decided to make our way to the hospital. FINALLY! The hospital was only a 2 min drive so I didn't stress about not getting there on time. However, as soon as I got out of the car on my arrival at the hospital, my fore-waters broke, in the carpark! Now I was stressing!

When I reached the Maternity Ward, I was rushed in to the Birth Suite and didn't even have time to take my pants off when the Hind-Waters broke! Not long now, I thought! After a VE, which showed I was now 4 cms, I decided to have a shower before jumping on the bed and trying to relax for a bit. By now I was having a break from contractions but I couldn't help but think about what I was in for next! After about an hour, the contractions returned, and were so much more intense! The MW decided to try me on some gas, which she had up WAY too high and I felt VERY spacey everytime I inhaled! After a few breaths though, I decided to stop using it as I felt too out of control and felt I was doing just fine with my showers and my breathing. After about an hour of breathing, and 10 showers later, we finally saw the first sign of blood, which meant the baby was finally moving down! By now I was starting to panic a little, but hubby reassured me it was a good sign and we'd meeting our little girl soon!
Not long after, I started to feel the pressure. I was told not to push, as I was only 8 cms and to hold on for as long as I could. Half an hour later, the MW decided to try me on some pethidine, as she thought it would be a while before I was fully dialated. Well, 10 mins later, when the pethidine only just started to work, the urge became too strong and i started to push! Within a few minutes and 3 pushes, my baby girl was finally born!

Due to being given the Pethidine so late, Madison had to be recussitated and woken up as she was very drowsy after birth, but once she was awake, she was perfectly fine! I was given an hour of skin-to-skin contact in which she took to the breast straight away while I had my check up and was so happy to hear that I didn't need stitches! Daddy finally got a cuddle too while I had a shower and cleaned myself up!
