    My birth story

Just thought I would share my experience.

I started having contractions on Monday 26th July at 3.26am. After the first 3 that were 14mins apart I woke my husband and said 'I think things are happening'. Needless to say we both had no sleep from then on.

The contractions continued to come 'regularly' (in my eyes) but not regular enough for hospital. They started at 14mins, then went to 10mins, then to 8, 7 6, up to 8, 10, 11, 13, down to 8, 7, 6 etc. The longest 'break' I had was 20mins. I stayed in bed most of the time, watching 'Sunrise' & 'The Circle'. At about 10:30am I decided to have a bath, so my Dad who was up visiting ran me one (poor guy didn't know what to do with himself - on the other hand hubby went all around the house on a cleaning frenzy).

Once I was in the bath the contractions started coming faster. I was on the phone to my MIL and 3 times in about 10mins had to stop for a contraction. I then vomited in the bath and she recommended I head up to the hospital. So I jumped in the shower (part of my plug fell out while I was getting outta the bath - eww). In the shower contractions were really intense. I got out, dried, dressed (which was very hard to do in between contractions), then went to the loo again (really felt like I needed to poo). Here the rest of my plug fell out - ewww again!

Went out to the car and was sick in the front yard. It felt like the longest car ride ever even though we were only 5 mins away. DH pulled up out the front of the hospital and wanted to help me in. I was fine so made him go park the car (lol). I made it just into the labour ward before another contraction started. Hanging onto the railing, someone (a nurse) came up and asked if I was ok... ummm NO! I am in labour. I then had to wait for 20mins until they found me a bed in a small waiting room that had 3 kids waiting in it. When I was finally in a room and was checked they found I was already 8cm dilated!!!

I used the gas and had that set at 25% through the whole thing. Lying on the bed I felt incredible pressure on my bowels - I actually turned to hubby and said (in gas talk) 'feels like my ******* is going to explode'. We were in the delivery room alone at this time cos the midwife had gone to get things. This feeling was bubs head pushing down. DH pushed the 'help' button and the midwife came back. I asked when I had to push and the midwife said when you feel ready. Next contraction I got I had this urge to push and my body over took me and I let out this almighty groan. It wasn't because I was in pain - just it was what my body needed to do. On doing this though, I found out later, hubby burst into tears. Once I let this out, the midwife said 'that's what I was waiting for'. The next few contractions I pushed and I could feel her head coming down. For me, this didn't hurt!! It was amazing. (I was high on gas though). Amelia Rose was born Monday 26/07/2010 at 1.45pm, 6pd 1oz, 46cm.

I did tear they said borderline 3rd degree but I didn't even know! I was stitched up (I didn't even ask how many) and spent the next four hours waiting in my own mess and blood while the midwife left to deliver other babies. Had to wait to have Amelia weighed and wrapped even. This we weren't to impressed with, but this also gave us time with our new baby girl, make phone calls and have her grandparents meet her.
