What a wonderful birth, well done to you for your role and to the birthing mumma. Hope all are continuing to do well.
I too had goose bumps. You did an amazing job Alan
Wow, that must have been so scary for all. Well done Alan.
WOW, what an eventful birth. So glad everything turned out ok. Congratulations to the mum for having a breech homebirth!
Thanks for sharing Alan! What an amazing and inspiring story.
What a great birth story to post!
Alan, why can't you live in Perth dammit!
Wow you sure do travel a bit for your births dont you... Glad I not going mad, and worked out where you are, whenever I see QLD I just think people must mean Brissy, I am hoping to be back in Cairns soon, also hoping to manage to get UTD with my 4th... now I know where you are I might just consider a home birth...seeing as I have had 3 babies within 4 hrs no drugs and up and leave Cairns base within 24 hrs... why not just stay home... That is if they dont bring in that bill

Green Tree Frog when you get that BFP give me a shout I would be happy to talk with you about a homebirth and I am sure that I could come up with a nice discount for a BB member.
That would be great Alanwe are in Mackay at the moment ( and Hate it ) I have heard so many bad things about this hospital I wouldnt want to have a baby here anyway... Might take a bit to convince BHL but I am sure when the time come he will be fine with it... now all I have to do is get UTD already, its been 10mths I am sick of waiting...
Alan, I love hearing your experiences too! What a great job by both you and mum. I was willing bubs along too. Wish you had been here 5 months ago lol. Do you get scared in situations like that??
Well done mama, and you too Alan.
Imagine how that would have panned out in the hospital...same result - healthy baby - but most likely much avoidable trauma to both mama and baby to get there.

I’m not sure if scared is the right word but it defiantly gets the heart beating. I try not to show the full extent my concerns to mum and dad however I do believe that they have a right to know what is happening so I will tell them I am concerned but may well tone it down a little. This baby had been breech for most of the pregnancy, at each antenatal we would discuss the potential problems that a breech vaginal birth could cause. About a week before the birth the hospital offered to try to turn the baby. (At this stage she had not decided if she was going to have a breech homebirth or go to hospital). On her way to the hospital she and her husband came to see me and asked if I would still be willing to attend her homebirth if the baby remained breech. She also said that she did not want to go to the hospital to have the baby turned due to the potential of needing a C/S. However if I did not want to help her birth at home then taking a chance on turning the baby would be better than having to have a C/S for a breech. So mum and dad knew all the possible problems but she also know that she could birth this baby vaginally. Actually her confidence in her own body was one of the main reasons that I accepted a first time mum to have a breech homebirth.
Hi Alan,
I'm not only interested in the location you were writing about...I had that sussed as I live over the river too (about five minutes from Cape Kimberly). You could have been writing about me! I wanted the home birth here too but I am also breech and there are enough hurdles as it is living here. I watched in amazement as you offered your services to another lady in NSW, who had been turned down by her local hospital 10 minutes up the road and I feel I would be in safe hands with you. I have decided to go the hospital route in Cairns after much deliberation but wish I had found you earlier. By the way, my biggest fear, the ferry stopping at midnight was unfounded, as it will open for any emergency 24 hours. My family was more than a little worried about me being stuck over here. Thankyou for sharing this story. I'm up with a very actively kicking baby so it's funny to find your post out of the blue.
Hi Murph
There is still a chance that your baby will turn. Check out the spinning babies website. Also google rebozo they may give you some ideas how to help your baby turn.
Hopefully you are now in bed getting some sleep
