Suse - We came up via Cairns and back via Townsville, Pixie's brother lives in Bingil Bay so we will be up again...we will give you a yell next time, this was a short, rushed trip.
Cass - She's wonderful now, as for what caused the problem I don't think it was anything specific, the last moments of the labour were fairly intense and I think the poor little mite just got a bit beaten up in the process...her 1 min Apgar score was only 3, and 2 of those points came from having a great heart rate. Once she had been bagged with oxygen she turned a nice shade of pink which pushed her score up to 5 but didn't really try to breath without assistance for quite some time - nearly 30 minutes!
I remember standing at the resus station with the paeds and trying to reassure thePixie that all was going to be ok whilst I was becoming more and more worried that it might not be. It didn't help that the two paeds were clearly getting a little stressed about her condition and the batteries on the portable equipment were giving up as they had been running for so long. Not the easiest introduction to being a parent for either of us.
Bear, you sound like the best support person a woman could have! Not many people can hold it together externally like that while being so internally conflicted!
