apparently only 5% of babies arrive on their due date and 11% of labours start with spontaneous membrane rupture... who would have thought id have both happen what a special baby.
Eli was due on the 15th Dec 2011
3 weeks before i was due i started to get the urge to walk all the time so i would walk about 4 hrs a day through shopping centres so i could stay cool and be close tofood while being distracted .... and buying lots of cute baby stuff.
on the 13th i had my obstetrician app and was booked in for an induction (my placenta was quite calcified) on the 21st as that was earliest they could get in due to eveyone wanting their baby out before christmas .
on the 14th Thinking i would prob go over with baby being my 1st i was thinking i would make it that far so went and bought some fabric to make baby blankets to keep occupied, hubby came home that night feeling a bit disheartened that there was no baby yet and he wasnt able to start any new projects and didnt have much to do at work so decided he would take the next day off and lie to his boss that i ws having contractions.
Went to bed at 10pm and dtd hoping that would also do something to move baby along and it must have because at 1minute past midnight on his due date punctual little boy i got up to go to the bathroom and couldnt understand why there was fluid comming out but i wasnt peeing at which point i realised my waters had just broken as it just kept coming (surprised at how much there was... also tena pads have an awesome capacity for catching amniotic fluid) as i hobbled into the bedroom to notify dh what had just happened he jusped out of bed without even moving a muscle i swear we made the final adjustments to my suitcase as i rang the hospital and were notified to come in right away... i hung up at which point the rality of it all hit me and i stood in the bathroom for about 15mins jut throwing up with dh running around the house.
i onyl had 3 contractions in the car on the way over they were 3 mins apart lasting 40seconds but not terribly painful.
I got to the hospital and was taken to the last available birthing suite (it was a bust night that night) and was told to get some sleep ...yeah right!
things stayed much the same and my ob came in about 9am and i was started on a drip started me on a drip to "make my contractions more organised" although i think thats ob talk for you dont look like your in enough pain yet.
things really picked up after that and i was managing it really well with breathing and my awesome tens machine (dh eventually ended up pushing the button for me before contractions started as i was unable to by the time it came)(love it so much!...also it was a posterior birth and i had no pain in back because of my wonder machine) ob came back in about 12ish give or take halfhr and did an internal i cant remeber how far i was but it really hurt because she was stretching my cervix and i started crying at which point she said that good we want more of those contractions (lol mean ob) she recomended that i go on pethadine as i was crying so much , i was given the pethadine which did a great jobfor the pain and i also used gas which didnt really do much for the pain at that point but was good to help me focus onmy breathing and kept me nice and mellow all of a sudden all the pain went away but y contractions kept going as normal and i started screaming i swear i couldnt stop it was like an out of body experience .
then i felt like i needed to push (such a strong feeling) but was told i was only 8cm so had to hold on...a near impossible feat.... after i dont know how long of trying to breath and not puch i got to the point where it felt so wrong to hold on and was crying i didnt wanna do it anymore and im sorry cause i was so over holding onto it.
I couldnt hold on anymore and started pushing (felt much better) Eli came out in 3 pushes weighing 6.1lbs or 3.1kg.
so al in all 5hr labour with 10mins pushing and 5mins later the placenta was out.
I found the weeksafter labour worse than labour itself as i had multiple 2nd degree tears inside and out... but my pirennium was intact lol one small victory.
Dh was great helping me breath through labour and holding my hand and pressing the tens button... and didnt end up having to lie to his boss haha.
