    How Flynn arrived.....

Well this is definitely the LAST baby I have!

After having two natural births with no complications, my beautiful new arrival decided to be different.

I'd had a night and day of very loose bowel motions. I was thinking maybe things could be happening but as I was almost 4 weeks early I was hoping not. At 6pm on Monday night I had my first contraction. Unlike my other children (who were exactly the same) these contractions were coming 6-7 mins apart not 5 mins. After about an hour I rang my mum to come and pick me up and we headed to the local hospital. They did an internal and said I was 1.5cm dilated. As we can't give birth here, Proserpine hospital was called and they told me to come on down.

My husband stayed home with our other kids and my younger sister came instead. She has had 2 c-sections so she was coming to witness a vaginal birth. We got to Proserpine and the put the monitor on to see how I was progressing. Contractions were building but not much. Again, very unlike my other two births.

I was admitted to the ward where we all tried to get some rest (except Mum of course who was sure something was wrong and kept her eyes glued on me!). Contractions then went all over the place. I fell asleep but woke at 3am to pee. Went to the toilet and blood ran out of me. Mum went to get the midwife who thought mum meant I'd had a bloody show. She told mum not to worry and she would come and check on me soon.

I went to hop back into to bed and on bending over a pool of blood also came out. I managed to get back to sleep only to wake at 6am to pee again. This time when I went to the toilet alot of blood came out plus a huge clot. Mum went and got the midwife again who on seeing what was in the toilet, panicked. She rang the doctor who was there about 20 mins later. I was put back on the monitor and they broke my waters. I hadn't really dilated at all and kept bleeding fairly heavily. The doctor was really concerned and decided that as bub's heart rate was dropping pretty rapidly that my placenta was tearing away, hence the blood and clots, and that I needed to have an emergency c-section.

I cried, of course. I also panicked a little but having my sister there was really comforting seeing as though she has had 2 c-sections herself. She calmed me down and then things really started to happen. The room filled with people within minutes, a drip was put in, I was shaved, stockings put on, cap on, gown on, forms signed etc. I can't believe how quickly it gets done!!

I was wheeled into theatre where I received big hugs from the nurses which made me cry again. Spinal block was put in and then Mum came in and sat near my head and held my hand. Within minutes my beautiful baby boy was born.

Flynn Lenard, born at 8.10am on Tuesday 17th June, 36wks +3, 7lb 2 oz, 49 cm long, head circ - 34cm. He was perfect!

The doctor said, had they let me go another hour and we would have lost Flynn and possibly me. Thank god for modern medicine.

I have recovered well but I am never doing this again.

Flynn is adored by his big brother Will and big sister Rory. They cannot leave him alone!

Well that is the birth story of my last child. Thanks to those of you who read this lengthy post.

You sound like me Jean. Never again. Seems to be the standard response when things don't go to plan. Sounds like you both had a near miss there. Best to count your blessings and not add to the family anymore.
