    Kaden's Birth

    Tuesday 16 Nov (40 wks)
Today is my due date. Have no signs that this bubba is coming Had ante-natal appointment, Bubs is in position and partially engaged.

    Thursday 25 Nov (40+9 wks)
Last ante-natal appointment today! Had internal examination. Was 3-4cm dialated. Midwife did a sweep of the membranes hoping that it will start my labour off naturally otherwise will be getting induced on Sunday.

    Friday 26 Nov (40+10 wks)
Went in today to be monitored on ctg. Had a few Braxtons whilst on the machine but bubs still seemed very comfy and didnt want to go anywhere.

    Sunday 28 Nov (40+12 wks)
Couldn't sleep much last night.. Although i have been wanting this bubba born since 2-3 weeks ago, suddenly i felt very nervous, scared..no..TERRIFIED, yet excited! Knowing that today IS the day! 7:00am DP and I put our bags in the car and headed to the hosp. Get there 10 mins later and wait for my mum and sister who are also my support people to get there. We all made our way in and up to the birth suite where I met 2 really lovely midwives and was shown into a room to get settled. I picked room number 2 as it is my favourite number
So i got settled for what i had prepared to be a long long day, or 2 days even. The midwife put me on the ctg monitor for 30 mins. We then had a discussion about my birth plan and about pain relief options if i chose to take them etc.

At 8:45am I had my waters broken. Then the weirdest thing happened.. At the exact same time, the clock stopped working!! Freaked me out a little.. So after having a shower to clean up, I got dressed and midwives told me they would limit a 2 hour period to see if contractions would start on their own. If not then would start the drip. We decided to head down to the cafe and have something to eat and drink and walk around a little. At 9:30am I had my first contraction so we headed outside to walk around the carpark. It wasn't long until the next one came, then the next, around 5 mins apart. They were still bearable but enough to stop walking and rock my hips through them. After the 6th or 7th one I decided I wanted to head back to the birth suite. By the time I got back up there they were coming at 3 mins apart and started to get alot more painful. So I just paced around the room, stopping to rock through each contraction. I could feel that bubs was moving down pretty quickly as I had huge gushes of water with every contraction that I had.

Around 11:30am it was getting a bit too much so I got into the shower. I HATED it!! Everyone told me that I would love it and the hot water on my back and belly would be awesome but not for me I'm afraid. I felt as tho it made the contractions more painful. So I got out and dressed into a gown. I tried leaning over the bed with pillows whilst DP rubbed my back but had to politely ask him not to touch me at all!! All the rubbing seemed to make them hurt more also. I was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with each contraction no matter how hard i tried to relax and breath through them. I tried squatting, on all fours, leaning over just about every piece of furniture in the room but nothing seemed to be working for me!! Eventually i tried lying down on the bed with my legs spread wide open, instantly I felt at ease so I didn't move from this position. DP made a joke about how it was this position that has gotten me here!! I managed a little chuckle. The contractions seemed to be coming on top of each other now.

1:30pm and the midwife made me go to the toilet because I hadnt been since before it all started. After about 5 painful minutes on the loo I couldnt go so eventually got back onto the bed. The contractions were now really really painful so I tried a bit of the gas to help me breath through them a bit better. It seemed to help a little but not much. I stopped using the gas when I suddenly felt the urge to push at around 2:00pm. The midwives told me to just go with my body and push whenever I felt the need too. By this time my contractions were only lasting around 20 seconds. I could feel the head come down with each one, then I could feel it go back in again. After the 8 or 9th push the head was coming out (I now know why they call it the "Burning Ring of Fire" OUCH!!) and there it sat until the next contraction. Next push and the head was out, RELIEF!! DP was asked if he wanted to help deliver the rest of him so he jumped around and took hold of his head and with another push, the rest of him slid out. He was then placed on my tummy as the cord wasnt long enough. After DP cut the cord I got to have proper cuddles . At that moment I broke down with emotion overload!!

Meanwhile I had a soft catheter put in to empty my bladder then delivered the placenta 25 mins later. After an hour or so of skin to skin and feeding it was DP's time for snuggles while I had a couple of stitches put in. After getting cleaned up, bubs got weighed and measured then we headed to the ward.

Just gorgeous, such a wonderful story!!! Well done, and welcome baby Kaden, what a cutie in your pic

BTW, i hated the shower in my first birth too, i screamed my head off at DF to turn it off with each contraction but was too scared to leave the shower as i thought it was going to hurt more! LOL.
