    Lachlan's speedy arrival 6/7/08

Ok im going to write down our birth story while its still kinda fresh in my head.

On Wednesday the 2nd I went in to see my midwives as i was due on the 29th of June and was still holding on. The midwife gave me a stretch and sweep, at the time my cervix was soft, posterior and still 3 cm long.

During the day on Thursday i lost some mucus and blood but nothing happened, this continued on Friday. Saturday I was feeling lousy, i just didnt feel well, i was tired and grumpy and had had enough.

Sunday afternoon I had friends around for coffee and we just sat and talked, Hubby and I then went around the house trying to get things ready for my planned induction on the Thursday the 10th July.

at around 3pm I sen hubby to the shop for some milk, while he was out i did some washing, i stood up and felt a small gush of fluid, i went to the toilet and felt some more. I put a pad on and continued washing and drying clothes. I had another gush this time a bigger one, so i told the kids to pack their toys away and get a bag to go to Nana's. I rang the midwives and spoke to them, i was told to come in as i had tested positive to Strep B. At this point i was having no contractions at all and felt fine. I pottered around and we got in the car and went to the hospital. I was sent into the birthing centre and hooked up to the cg machine so they could get a trace on bubs, he was active so i ended up staying on the machine for 2 hrs , in this time my parents and come in and got the kids and taken them home.

I asked to get up and go to the toilet, i walked to the toilet and bang a contraction. Then they came thick and fast 1 minute apart from the get go. Hubby called my Mum back and i got in the shower. The hot water on my back was wonderful for a while.
I turned the water of after what to me felt like an eternity as i was annoyed with it. The midwife came in and said they needed to do an internal . I somehow managed to get on the bed. I was 7 cm dilated.
I tell you i couldnt move quick enough, i got on all fours and raised the bed. The doctor came in to put an iv in, i was told to relax, my hubby said i dont think youre gonna get that in, as soon as they tried i felt imense pressure. so the Dr left, said she wouldnt bother.

I looked at Mum and told her i needed a break at this point contractions where on top of each other.I asked her why i picked a drug free labour, she just smiled and said its ok Tan. Hubby got me a drink and wiped my head.

Next thing i needed to push, after 4 pushes i could feel our bubs head, then he was here, one more push and he was delivered. He was passed straight up to me and placed on my chest.

For the first hour i was the only one to hold him skin on skin contact ( hospital policy)
It was great he managed to feed and i just held him and looked him over.
He was then taken to get weighed and measured and checked in the room.

Lachlan Stewart was born at 7:47pm
    His weight 7lb 1 0z (3150 grams)
    length 50 cm
    head circumference 33.5cm

Lachlan was posterior and had the cord around his neck. He somehow has perfect skin no bruises, i have no tears etc . We came home 24 hours later. Lachlan was monitored for 24 hours and is in perfect health.

the first stage of labour was 37 minutes
    second stage 10 minutes
    third stage 8 minutes
    A total of 55 minutes

Thankyou for taking the time to read our story.
