my 4th and first baby girl Eireann (might upset you)

Warning this could be long and I hope i remember every thing plus one part may upset people i'm sorry if it does

Well we moved to the sunshine coast about 3 months ago now from Ireland and I got sorted with Nambour general
I have had GD from day one in my pregnancy and had to go on insulin at around 24 weeks and slowly it was increased so at 39 weeks they decided to Induce me as baby was getting big typical GD baby head and belly measuring bigger for dates I would have liked to have gone my self but was ready to meet my baby girl as well

so on Monday the 25 I made my way to the hospital to be induced and this is were the fun starts I was examined and baby head was very high which is the norm for me im very small and all of my babies like to float very high on till the water is gone so it didnt worry me on till the doctors came in after shift change and I had one doctor saying that there was a slight chance baby wouldn't be able to breath when born as she would be a week early and also that because her head was very high they were worried about breaking my waters as they had done it the day before and the cord came down and they were very lucky and delivered the baby in 11 minutes the baby was down the the nicu doing ok but having trouble with breathing so i could understand why they were worried but they frightened the life out of me with all this talk of I could kill my baby if i was a first time mother I would have ran as fast as i could out of there that morning even with being my 4th i was freaking out. they left us to decide what to do I was given the choices of 1 break my water and hopefully cord wouldnt come down but if it did my baby could die !! or two try drip to bring on contractions and risk scar opening I had a section on my fist baby the rest have been viginal deliveriers or 3 straight to c section

I went with two have the drip(I was on a 4 hour hour time limit) I knew ild be ok with it as ild had it to induce my last labour and it went great so set me up on the drip and contractions started and have to say i was not to relaxed at all there was a weird vibe in the delivery not in my room but from the staff , we were chatting away i was coping with the pains fine and we could hear a girl across the hall crying and really distressed I said to my midwife wow I though that girl would have delivered by now she is really upset for ages now (normally when you get to the stage your screaming the place down baby is well on the way) so I thought at that stage she should have delivered but my midwife said she was grieving as she was only 19 weeks and came in with bleeding and her water were bulging my heart went out to her I felt so sad for her you could really hear her pain all i wanted to do was go in a hug her although i prob would have been the last person she wanted to see all i could think was I hope this never happens her again it was very sad and i dont think the staff knew what to say to her.

I guess something changed in me then I felt I just wanted to go home it was close to the 4 hour mark and I just wanted them to stop the drip check me and see what they were going to do. they stopped the drip and started to get ready for a c section I was ok with that although in the back of my mind it felt wrong.

any way my midwife went off and comes back and she says well the bad news in they are going to watch you over night and readdress things in the morning but if i had any pains or my waters broke i was to tell them straight away. I was still having contractions but I willed them to stop as the reality of our situation hit me we were on our own no family or very many friends our close friends had said they would mind our boys when i had the baby but had gone travelling and went for longer so we were on our own luckily I had my doula there that day and she offered to take my boys the next day but I was thinking I dont want to be on my own having this baby as we had no one to mind our boys if i went in to labour that night I was terrified and very teary at the thoughts of it I decided that i wasn't going to get any pains and willed the to go lol

so off went DH who to pick up our boys his friend was minding them and he was great took a day off work and all and there was no way we were asking him to do that twice we were so grateful to him and my doula who minded our boys the following day
I was in the ward feeling a little down but they girls were lovely and the nurses looking after us were great as well.

the next morning I was waiting patiently for the doctors to come and decide what to do with me they eventually came and checked me baby wasnt as high as the day before so they decided to prepare me for a c section sign forms the whole lot bring me down to theatere put in a spinal block and epidural and if the worst happened when they broke my waters they were ready to deliver that was my birth plan out the window as i didnt want a epidural but i was ok with it i actually didnt want to feel it when they were trying to break my waters cause I knew it really really hurts

had a few issues with spinal block it dropped my blood pressure so felt really ill but they treated that and then started and no problems water broke and baby head came right down and i was 4cm and 100%effaced happy days actually the doctor who was doing all the worring about the cord coming down was thrilled she looked so happy that it went well and said this is much better no c section and up to the delivery room more drip to bring on contractions and drips for insuloin and sugar to manage my blood sugars it took about two hours for contraction's to start I was told after the spinal and epidural it could slow it down didnt stop me worring they would never start .LOL

then at about half six they started slowly every 20 minutes and I could feel them but pain wise it was very managable and they got stronger and closer togeather they actually turned the drip down as i was getting them every minute and a half apart so they went to 2 and a half minutes and i could feel them had to breath through them but was doing ok could even relax and chill out in between.

then the midwifes changed and I got a great guy i was a bit of who is this but was happy enough and he was brilliant really knew his stuff DH went to the toilet and heard the other girls asking his advice so he was very happy with him as well

im nbot sure what time it was but I started to feel funny and i had been sitting up straight and my ass felt sore I said to DH i need to lie on my side and get off my ass feel funny then as soon as i was on my side I said oh pressure I feel pressure
Dh looked a little worried at this and said right I better get the guy back LOL i was like yea may be I need to push I think. at this stage I got a pain in mty right side I alays do near the end and after getting me to push a little midwife says your going to have to better than that to get this baby out I was like bloody hell give me a break LOL he said im going to get very tough on you but youll be ok, i told him about the pain in my side he said that was because baby had her head up she needed to have her chin on her chest to come out right so she was putting pressure on my pelvis so he got me to lie on my right side and he said its gong to be very hard but i want to to breath through the contractions give little pushes and we will do this for 15 minutes and then retry pushing he went off and i lay on my side at this point I said to DH i hope i can push right after the spinal and epidural, so i lay there fighting the urge to push like mad till I couldnt fight any longer and gave little pushes and felt something move and the pain in my side went I was delighted. we were ready to go and push

so they turned me on my back again sat me up right and chin on my chest which was very hard as my bump was in my face i was carrying very high I remember saying I cant breath they though that was very funny but what ever it was I started pushing and could feel her coming down and she felt big after 20 minutes pushing I deliverd my baby girl and was over the moon whie I had been pushing a doctor came in as I think earlyier they had though ild need help getting her out with my first attempt at pushing and i so happy i didnt and could get her out.

I was over the moon and got to have a really good cuddle while they chatted away there was no rush to take her away or cut the cord they asked me after about 10 minutes did I want the injection to speed up the placenta I was like yea get it out I felt so uncomfortable DH cut the cord and they checked if i tore and i didnt so was very happy with that had a few scrapes but ok other wise.

I got to feed her for ages and they took all her weight and that

She was 8lbs 8 and a half ounces
    Head was 36cm
    length was 50cm
    and she is perfect

Well im sorry it was so long and hope it helps any one else in the same position

Congrats - sounds like you had a great midwife helping you too.

I am surprised they told you about the lady in the other room .... I imagine it would have been quite distressing.

    She looks gorgeous
