    Talking My wonderful fifth birth.

Ok this is the story of my fifth baby and I think that it was the best birth.

I started to have contractions on Tuesday the 14th of October just after I woke from my nana nap. I had been feeling funny for the last few days and was just waiting to go into labour. The contraction started slow at about 20-30 mins apart and stayed that way from about 2:30pm Tuesday until about 5:30am Wednesday morning.

I woke DH to go to work as I still didn't really think that I would be going into labour as I'd had a few false starts in the last few days/weeks. He left for work at 5:00am and I dozed in between the contractions, I finally decided to call him about 6ish and tell him that my contractions hadn't disappeared over night. As soon as I got on the phone to him and told him that they were about 20mins apart, then next came at 10mins and then the next was about 7mins. I started to panic a little as I had two older children to get ready for school, so told him he better come home now and give me some help as they were starting to get painful and making me stop when I had them. So he rang his boss and got him to come in, in his place.

So I rang my brother and finally got him about 7:45am and asked if he was doing anything and if not could he come over and watch the boys for me as I thought that the baby would be here today. He said that he and my SIL would be over once they had woken up properly and had something to eat.

Mean while I got the two older boys lunches ready for school as well as got the boys breakfasts ready all the while have contractions still about 7mins apart. DH got home about 8:15am and my brother and SIL got here about 8:30am, so we sat around for a while and chatted, I decided to ring the hospital at about 8:45am to see what they wanted me to do. They said as we lived close to the hospital (about 10mins away), to come in when the contractions were about 5mins apart, which I was happy with.

My brother, DH and I dropped the two older boys at school and then went up to the shop and got some sausage rolls and drinks for a late breakfast, by this time my contractions had started to speed up a little. Once we got home I ate my sausage roll I regretted it, I decided that I would start to take notice of how far apart the contractions were, they were about 5mins apart and I felt like I wanted to go to the hospital, so I rang the hospital back and they said to come in and they would check to see what was happening.

DH got the bags in the car and we said goodbye to the younger two boys and my brother and SIL and went to the hospital. We got there at about 10:30-10:45am, we went to the assessment unit and they put on the CTG machine and the contractions started to slow, the midwife did an internal and said that I wasn't dilated and that the bub was posterior. She gave my cervix a bit of play with and said hopefully it would do something. Once she left I felt so devastated that I cried and was so upset, the contractions were so painful that I was sure I was in labour, but no. So we went home, on the way home I had a few contractions again but they weren't very close or regular.

We got home at about 1:30pm and had a chat to my brother and SIL and I apologised for taking up their day and they went on their way saying that they hoped the baby would come soon.

DH and I pottered around the house, the contractions started up in full force again and I was whinging to DH saying that for not been in labour I wished that these pains would just go away. DH got me to try and help him write out a shopping list as we usually do the shopping after picking up the kids from school. I just couldn?t concentrate as every time I had a contraction I had the feeling like I needed to do a wee so I would be in the toilet every 5mins or so.

At about 2:30pm, I had another contraction and went to the loo, and when I wiped I found my mucus plug with some blood in it, I got excited as I thought aahhhh, finally I must be in labour for real now, plus I'd never seen my mucus plug before either, so was happy with that.

DH abandoned the idea of doing the shopping as I was in to much pain, he was going to pay the rent after he picked up the boys, so he left the two younger boys at home with me and left to pick the boys up. Once he had left I hopped into a hot shower and immediately the contractions picked up, I quickly got the phone and told DH to come straight home after getting the boys as I really felt like I needed to go to the hospital.

DH rang his friend to come and pick up the four boys, by the time DH got home at about 3:15pm I was starting to worry that I wasn't going to make it to the hospital, so I rang them and told them that I will be in soon. DH friend got here at about 3:45pm, I'd just got to the door of the car after 3 contractions to get there. He quickly got the boys into his car and DH got into our car and we went to leave but I had a contraction and motioned for him to wait. DH asked before we took off if I needed to push yet and I half laughed and said not yet.

DH sped the whole way there, with about 2-3mins until we got to the hospital I told him he better hurray as I needed to push. He got us to the front door of the hospital and I got out and told him to come on, but he said no I?ll go park and meet you. I just couldn't argue. I made it from the car to the front door when a contraction hit and I grabbed the glass and I'm saying out loud to myself don't push, don't push, a couple asked if I was alright and I said yep fine(ha). I got in the door and the receptionist asked if I was alright and all I could do was shake my head no, but she obviously already knew as an orderly was on his way to me with a wheelchair. I got in and he asked how I was and I told him he better hurray as I wanted to push. I had one more contraction on the way and I could here myself moaning and knew I was close to having bub. We got to the birthing suites and the midwife asked if I was alright(boy I was sick of answering this question). I said no I want to push now, I got quickly shown to a room.

I got up on the bed and the midwife checked to see what was going on and said oh, your waters are bulging and the head is right there you can push next contraction. I started to panic as DH still wasn't there, but just then he came rushing in, he put the bags down and just then I could feel the contraction, DH was talking to the midwife and I started to push, bang my waters broke with a big gush, DH swore and quickly got the camera, because with the waters came the head (he got a great shot of the head out). I got told to stop pushing and I felt him turning in my birth canal and his arm came out and him basically pulled himself out, it amazed the midwife and DH. They put him up on my belly and waited for the cord to stop pulsating and then DH cut it. Placenta was birthed not long after.

Julian entered the world at 4:11pm the 15th of October. Weight 3500g (7lb 11oz), 50cm long and 34cm head cir.

Sorry it was so long, but thanks for reading.
