    no vbac, beautiful baby boy!

My second lovely son Connor was born on the 28th of September, 2007, after waiting two whole weeks past his due date! I was hoping for a vaginal birth after my first son Lachlan was born via c section, due to my waters breaking early and labour not progressing. I tried everything I could to get baby in prime position for a "normal" birth, crawling aroung on hands and knees, sitting backwards on the dining room chairs, drinking raspberry leaf tea the list goes on. Then finally the due date came....and went. No sign of imminent labour, not even a cramp. And I was still getting bigger and bigger! I even created a calander that Lachlan and I were putting stars on, counting down the days till the baby came, and it was now obsolete! Finally, the week I was told that by Friday, I would be having a caesar, I started having a show, and some lower abdominal cramps, and I let myself get excited... to no avail. It was a small dissapointment when Friday came, and I turned up at the hospital, minus one labour bag, but I figured that at least this way I knew what to expect.
As I was being prepped for surgery (I was having an epidural) I began to imaagine those first magical cries, and the ob declaring "it's a boy!", when I noticed the epidural was having a wonderful effect. Actually, it was too effective, and the next thing I knew, I could barely feel my self breathing as the numbness crept up to my throat and chin. I began to panic, trying to tell the anethisist what was wrong, and it bothered me that he seemed slightly concerned. He talked me through it, but it is a horrifying sensation when you can't tell if your lungs are doing their job, just as your baby is about to be born. Slowly, as the numbness reached my chin, it began to subside and sadly my son had been born and I had not been able to enjoy what for me was already plan b to a natural birth. But once in recovery I had my new baby beside me, a whopping 9 pound 8! and I realised it could have been much much worse. I have a wonderful new baby, a curios big brother who now loves his little brother, and a proud father and husband. Even if I have another baby and have to go under for the birth to happen, I know I'm blessed just to have them in my life!
Connor is now three months old and thriving!
