    high blood pressure

i have this question in the general area but not getting any comments so thought i would post here too.

had my 15 week health check yesterday and my blood pressure was on the borderline for being classed as high. with DD the same thing happened though later on in pregnancy. i really really really dont want to be induced so is there any ideas about how to lower your blood pressure this early on in pregnancy?

Just being at the drs can make your BP go up, but its a good idea to keep an eye on it.

If your BP goes high i would say they would medicate you because you have a bit of a way to go before you deliver yet. As long as your BP stays stable around your due date, medicated or not, i dont see why they would induce you.

Ways to lower BP is rest and relax. Deep breathing, meditation and relaxation methods. Pregnancy yoga might be good.

I hope your BP stays stable all the way through and you dont have to be induced

    Hi Hollo,

I too have borderline high blood pressure. My readings vary, but generally the high ones seem to be 145/90. I was advised to buy a digital blood pressure monitor because everytime i went to the Dr i would feel anxious and would get what they call "White Coat Syndrome" - which basically means your bp rises due to the anxiety of being at the Dr, where as usually it may be a bit lower. One of the worries with high Bp is kidney deterrioration and your kidneys leaking protein into your urine.
I was diagnosed at around 19 weeks and am now 30 weeks. In that time i have had 2 x 24hour urine tests (which check for protein in your urine) and 2 blood tests to check my kidney functioning. There is protein present in my uirne (+1 i think they call the level) but that has not increased and is not high enough to worry about as yet.
I have tried everything to lower my Bp - relaxing, meditation, putting feet up. The biggest help i have had is to deal with any stresses you may be experiencing (mine being work issues - Kindergarten teacher here). If i'm slightly stressed about a work issue my Bp is up. Once i have dealt with it or spoken to someone about it, it naturally lowers itself. Also, knowing you have High Bp does not help that anxiety. Sometimes i feel that if i was never told about it, it would be much lower because i would'nt worry about it constantly.
There are safe medications for pregnant women with high Bp. One called Methyldopa and the other Beta Blocker. I may need to go on one of these if my Bp continues to rise. Having my own monitor at home is much better as i can take readings in my own comfort zone at different times of the day to show my Bp is not constantly high. If you do buy your own monitor (approx $130) take it to your doc and have them take your Bp with their machine, then you take it with yours so you can see how far out your machine is (as digital monitors are not as accurate). You can even buy your own stethescope to listen to your heart beats while using the digital to give you a more precise reading.

I know i have rambled on a bit, but this topic has caused myself some very high stress, and i wished there was someone who had been through it too.

Hope I have helped you in some way
    xx

Mine has been borderline too, its very scary!
I have an appointment on Friday so hoping it will be improved.
If it hasn't i think i will go out and buy a monitor as well to keep an eye on it.
I hope i don't end up on meds
Its reassuring that other people are going through it as well.

I had mine taken the other day and it was 130/60, which the dr said was normal for someone who wasn't pregnant but a bit high for someone who is and she wants to keep an eye on it. Normally I have low bp so it's a bit odd, but not too concerned. That being said, I don't really know what the problems associated with high bp are (ignorant bliss :P). Does anyone know what can cause high bp? I had just had my anatomy scan and was very very very happy and excited. Could this maybe have affected it??
