*Urgent* - Should I get him checked?

DS is 7.5months and is demand bf with 3 BLS meals a day. He usually feeds every 2-3hrs but yesterday he only had 4 feeds, and today he has had 3 so far, plus a little water from his cup both days.

Today I have only changed 3 wet nappies, including his night nappy which is on him for around 11hrs. It wasn't very wet either. He is in cloth and I have had him in ones today that are only good for one wee (cheapies but good for around the house) so I could monitor his output. They have been wet but not very wet iykwim.

Yesterday was in excess of 40 degrees, and today is just below 40.

Should I be concerned? I don't want him to become too dehydrated before I do something. What would I say if I ring the dr/hospital?

By the sounds of things he's doing ok. It's probably just the hot weather drying things up iykwim? Offer him BF and water regularly and he should take what he needs.

My DS had gastro when he was a similar age. The main thing we were told to look out for was no urine in an 8 hour period (along with sunken fontenelle etc). As long as there is some urine and they're not drowsy etc it's ok. They actually told me to put a folded up tissue in his nappy so I could see for sure if he had gone even a little bit.

Is he sluggish or fatigued? Falling asleep or hard to rouse? If he is take him in.

He sounds a little dehydrated. You can give him water or offer more BF.
Icy poles are great for this too - Frozen Coke was the only way Charlotte survived the Black Saturday temps in Melbourne a few years ago (she was one).
I would call the chemist and check what age they can have the Hydralyte Iceypoles from, and grab some of those.

Keep offering the breast though, and make sure you are hydrated.

But if he is floppy, non-responsive or otherwise listless, take him to the hospital.

The heat will make a difference and dry him out. As long as he is drinking and wetting it should be OK. Have you tried giving him runny foods to get some liquid into him. Do you have a bottle to fill with water to give him

as long as he's not floppy etc, then you could always skip a BLS meal & offer a BF instead. that's what i've done with DS if it's been really hot/he's not well/constipated etc.

He is still alert and active although has slept more today than normal, but isn't hard to arouse.

I will keep offering him the boob and his cup and keep an eye on his nappies. Thanks again

as long as he's not floppy etc, then you could always skip a BLS meal & offer a BF instead. that's what i've done with DS if it's been really hot/he's not well/constipated etc.

He actually has one boob before and the other boob after his meals, he is a boob man...
